🔥 WAIT FOR IT… BURN BAN!!!!! 🔥
Folks, I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but after consulting with our local fire chiefs and the Police Jury President, effective today, October 15, 2026, DeSoto Parish is under a burn ban due to the extreme dry conditions. As well, the incoming cold front will bring windy conditions and low humidity which can significantly increase the risk of wildfires.
The DeSoto Parish Police Jury and local fire chiefs will continue to monitor conditions and reassess the burn ban once conditions improve. We will keep the public informed of any changes.
Thank you for your cooperation, please stay safe, and help us prevent a fire before it starts.
Thank you and God Bless!

UPDATED PUBLIC STATEMENT

DeSoto Parish Police Jury
Regarding the October 15, 2026, Mansfield Town Hall Meeting

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury acknowledges the City of Mansfield’s corrected public notification regarding the town hall meeting scheduled for Thursday, October 15, 2026, at Mansfield City Hall.

The Police Jury appreciates the City’s clarification that the Special Master was selected by the Federal Court to develop a proposed redistricting plan for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury districts and the plan labeled, “2027 DeSoto PJ Plan 1” was proposed by other interested parties.

To avoid any further misunderstanding, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury wishes to clarify that the October 15 town hall meeting is not an official meeting of the Police Jury, nor should it be interpreted as an official presentation, endorsement, or approval of the plan labeled, “2027 DeSoto PJ Plan 1.”

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury remains committed to transparency, accurate public information, and ensuring that residents understand the distinction between public discussions hosted by other entities and official actions taken by the Police Jury.

PUBLIC STATEMENT REGARDING REDISTRICTING PROCEEDINGS

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury would like to clarify certain statements contained in the recent public notice issued by the City of Mansfield regarding the ongoing redistricting litigation.

The statement that the DeSoto Parish Police Jury has been ordered by the Federal Court to create a new redistricting plan is untrue. The parties entered a consent judgment, under which the Court ordered that the DPPJ may NOT enact a remedial redistricting plan and that a Special Master would be appointed to prepare a proposed redistricting plan. That proposed plan is identified as BGD2. The Court has established a scheduling order outlining the process and deadlines for the parties to respond to the proposed BGD2 plan.
Additionally, the City of Mansfield’s public notice references a plan identified as the “2027 DeSoto PJ Plan 1.” The DeSoto Parish Police Jury has not adopted, approved, or endorsed that plan. It should not be represented as a plan adopted or endorsed by the Police Jury.
The Police Jury believes it is important that the public receive accurate information regarding the redistricting proceedings and the status of any proposed plans. Any discussion of these plans should clearly distinguish between the proposal prepared by the Special Master, the Court’s established process for reviewing that proposal, and any plan that some private or public citizen is promoting. The DPPJ cannot enact any remedial redistricting plan.

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury remains committed to following the Court’s orders and participating in the established legal process.

For clarity, the Special Master’s proposed plan, BGD2, is the proposal identified in the Court’s current process for responses. The reference to the “2027 DeSoto PJ Plan 1” should not be construed as representing a plan, considered, approved, or endorsed by the DeSoto Parish Police Jury.

PUBLIC NOTICE
BURN BAN LIFTED
After consulting with the local fire chiefs, the DeSoto Parish Police Jury is announcing that the current burn ban has been lifted, effective immediately.

While current conditions have improved enough to allow the burn ban to be lifted, conditions remain favorable for the rapid spread of fire. Residents are strongly encouraged to use extreme caution when conducting any outdoor burning.

Please ensure that all fires are carefully monitored, kept under control, and completely extinguished before leaving the area. Residents should also be mindful of wind conditions and avoid burning when conditions could cause a fire to spread.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and caution as we work to protect our communities and reduce the risk of wildfires.

PUBLIC NOTICE
BURN BAN REMAINS IN EFFECT

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury reminds all residents that the current burn ban remains in effect. Residents are asked to comply with all restrictions on outdoor burning until the burn ban has been officially lifted.
Dry conditions can increase the risk of wildfires, and even a small fire can quickly become difficult to control. We ask everyone to exercise caution and refrain from any prohibited outdoor burning during this time.
The Police Jury will provide notice to the public when conditions improve and the burn ban is officially lifted. We appreciate the cooperation of all DeSoto Parish residents in helping protect our communities, property, and first responders.

DeSoto Parish Police Jury Public Works Update

The DeSoto Parish Police Jury would like to provide residents with an update regarding our roadside maintenance schedule and the Stonewall Compactor Site project.
Due to the significant amount of storm debris generated by the winter storm earlier this year, our Road Department crews have spent the past several months focusing on parish-wide debris removal. The volume of cleanup has been much greater than normal, resulting in approximately a three-month delay in our regular mowing and roadside cutting schedule.
We understand the importance of maintaining our parish roads and rights-of-way, and we appreciate your understanding as our crews work diligently to catch up. Please be patient as we make our way to each area of the parish. We are working as quickly and safely as possible to restore our normal maintenance schedule.
We would also like to provide an update on the construction of the new turning lane and compactor site in Stonewall. Recent weather has caused delays in completing the turning lane portion of the project. However, we are still on track and anticipate completing the turning lane before the start of the upcoming school year.
We appreciate the continued patience and support of our residents as we work through these projects. Thank you for your understanding as we continue serving our parish.
