Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Annual Celebration! It was wonderful to celebrate 78 years of conservation in Richland County, recognize the people who make our work possible, and reflect on all we've accomplished together.

Congratulations to our newly elected Board Supervisor, our returning Board Supervisor, our Cooperator of the year, and our Volunteer of the year! The new board terms will begin January 1.

We're grateful for our volunteers, partners, and community who continue to support our mission. Here's to year 79! 🎉🌱

Out of sight, but hard at work.
As Stormwater Awareness Week comes to a close, we're wrapping up our spotlight on Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs) with one of the most hidden solutions: underground stormwater detention systems.
These underground systems temporarily store stormwater during heavy rains and slowly release it to help prevent flooding and stream erosion, all while saving valuable space in developed areas.
We hope you've enjoyed learning about the many SCMs that help protect our waterways and communities every day, often without us even noticing! Check out the graphic below to learn more.

What if your parking lot could help protect local streams?
Permeable pavement is designed to let rainwater soak through the surface and into the ground below instead of running off into storm drains. The result? Fewer puddles, cleaner water, and healthier waterways. Check out the graphic to see how it works!

Think of it as a waiting room for stormwater.
Detention basins temporarily hold excess runoff during storms, then slowly release it to help prevent flooding and erosion downstream. Take a look at the graphic below to see this stormwater control measure in action!

Don't let the pretty plants fool you. Bioretention areas are hard at work every time it rains, capturing stormwater runoff and filtering out pollutants before they can reach our waterways.
Take a look at today's graphic to see how these natural stormwater superheroes get the job done.

Ever wonder where rainwater goes after it falls on roads, parking lots, and buildings? This year, we're taking a closer look at Stormwater Control Measures (SCMs) and how they help protect our waterways.
Whether during construction or long after a site is completed, proper stormwater management is essential for keeping our local water resources clean and healthy.

It’s Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week!
On July 1, 2025, Governor Mike DeWine signed the Agriculture Appreciation Act into law!
This new law sets aside specific days and weeks to recognize and raise awareness about agriculture and related fields across Ohio. One key part of the Act: the first week of October (October 1–7) is now officially Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week.
So, what is stormwater run-off anyway?

A great way to kick off Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week ⛈️ Thank you, commissioners!

A great way to kick off Ohio Stormwater Awareness Week ⛈️ Thank you, commissioners!

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to present a proclamation recognizing October 1–7 as Stormwater Awareness Week. 💧

Keeping litter, oil, salt and other pollutants out of our storm drains helps protect the streams, lakes and rivers throughout our community.

Thank you to the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District for all you do to protect our local waterways! 🌱
