October is National Fire Safety Month. On Oct. 5, 6 and 9, preschool students and staff at Willow Lane Early Childhood Center learned about fire safety, explored fire trucks and asked firefighters questions.

Gretchen Dullinger, program assistant with Community Education's Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) program shared how much the visits mean to young learners.

“The Brooklyn Center firefighters have been visiting Willow Lane for more than thirteen years, sharing their knowledge of fire safety with our youngest learners. They do a wonderful job of explaining important fire safety concepts in a way that is developmentally appropriate for our three- to five-year-olds. We are so grateful for their continued partnership, and it is a joy to welcome them back each year!”

Visits from community helpers like firefighters also support students’ social-emotional learning. Meeting firefighters and exploring their equipment helps children become more comfortable with protective gear and loud noises while building trust and understanding the important role firefighters play in keeping their community safe.

As a community partner, thank-you Brooklyn Center firefighters —for sharing about the importance of fire safety with our students and staff.

School board members and district leaders want to hear directly from you! This month, they’ll be providing an opportunity for families to share their experiences – what’s going well and what needs improvement – at school conferences. You can share feedback in person at select schools, or simply scan the QR code on posters or flyers around your child’s school to take a quick 2-minute survey.

One Community For All — where all are heard and valued. Thank you for partnering with us to make Osseo Area Schools the best place to learn!

🍝HANDCRAFTED TORTELLINI WORKSHOP!🍝

OCTOBER 10, 2026 | 4:00--6:30 PM CST

Have you ever looked at a plate of beautiful handcrafted tortellini and thought
"I could NEVER make those!"? Well... I'm here to say

YES..... YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN!

Join me for one of my newest hands-on cook-along experiences, where we will make fresh, handcrafted tortellini completely from scratch!

We'll make our own pasta dough, prepare our filling, roll the pasta, fill it, shape it, cook it, and finish it with a delicious scratch-made cream sauce.

🍝 SO! LET'S MAKE TORTELLINI!

We'll start with a rich, creamy three-cheese filling that becomes the foundation for two additional variations:
🍄 Mushroom & Three-Cheese Tortellini--and if mushrooms aren't your thing, you can substitute spinach!
🌭Italian Sausage & Three-Cheese Tortellini

Then, I'll walk you through stuffing and shaping those beautiful little pasta parcels step-by-step because I want you to leave knowing not only how to make them, but feeling confident enough to make them again!

And finally....

✨ We cook them to perfection and finish them with a velvety, scratch-make cream sauce! ✨

There is something so incredibly satisfying about sitting down to a plate of pasta and being able to say: " Yup! I made this."!

That's what I love most about cooking...You don't need to be an experienced pasta maker or professional chef... you just need a little guidance, some good ingredients and a willingness to get your hands in there and make something delicious!

And yes! There is a little artistry involved! That's all a part of the fun!

Here' is what we will explore together.
✨ Fresh pasta dough from scratch
✨ Rolling & preparing past sheets
✨Making scratch-made three-cheese fillings with to additional options (see above)
✨How to fill and shape tortellini
✨ Cooking Fresh handmade Pasta
✨ A velvety scratch-made cream sauce
✨ Chef Tess tips and techniques for homemade pasta

You don't need fancy equipment to join in either! A stand mixer (helps to create the dough), a pasta roller (helps to roll out the sheets), and a food processor (helps with the sausage or mushroom filling) but are not required. I'll provide more information in the ingredient packet so you know exactly what you'll need.
