We are incredibly proud to share an article featured in the latest edition of the Wisconsin Fire Journal, written by one of our very own—First Responder Nicholle Modrzejewski of the Hamburg Fire Department!
In her piece, "Mental Health Stigma Among First Responders: Creating a Culture of Support," Nicholle takes an honest, powerful look at the hidden weights of the job—from trauma accumulation to the unique challenges faced in close-knit, volunteer departments like ours.
Most importantly, she highlights how we can break the silence, build structured peer support, and ensure that taking care of our mental wellness is treated as a vital part of responder safety.
Take a few minutes to read through her article attached below. Thank you, Nicholle, for representing Hamburg on a statewide level and starting this critical conversation!
