Mr. Wilson’s English class participated in a “Socratic Seminar,” a learning strategy that requires student active participation in a debate. The students were discussing their thoughts on what they’ve read thus far in “Of Mice and Men” by John Steinbeck and defending themselves on their views of the main characters in the novel. The students were engaged, insightful, and respectful when disagreeing with one another’s thoughts. The questions were challenging and thought provoking, and our students rose to the occasion! Well done, Mr Wilson and period 4! Way to think critically!

PRESS RELEASE: KORY SHILES STEPPING DOWN AT Mardela High after 21 Seasons and Back-to-Back 1A State Championships for Warriors Softball.

Over the course of two decades, Kory Shiles has led the Mardela High School Warriors softball program, spent 3 years as an assistant coach, adding up to a total of 24 years, over 350 wins (98 losses), 11 Bayside South division titles, 6 Bayside Conference Championships, 8 regional championships, and back-to-back MPSSAA 1A State Championships.

Shiles' primary reason to retire as Head softball coach is to spend more time coaching and watching his kids' sporting events at the high school, travel, and youth levels. "I take great pride in the impact our program has made on the game of softball and the Mardela community. ", said Shiles. "Those memories will last a lifetime, but I’m most proud of taking our little one stoplight town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and turning it into one of the best softball programs in the state of Maryland and recognized as one of the top small-town teams in the USA."

The praise for Coach Shiles' career at Mardela is already pouring in. "Coach Kory Shiles has made an incredible impact on Mardela High School, both on and off the softball field." stated Mardela Principal and Alum, Liza Hastings. For years, he has helped young women develop not only as athletes, but as leaders, teammates, and confident individuals. His dedication, passion, and commitment to our students have helped shape generations of Warriors. We are grateful for his service and wish him the very best in retirement."

Congratulations to Coach Kory Shiles on an amazing career as the Mardela Warriors softball coach.💚💛🥎
