Wondering why you might see firefighters standing in the middle of busy intersections and railroad crossings with boots in hand?
Around here, we call it the βBoot Block!β π’
Firefighters head to busy spots around town and, wellβ¦ stop (or βblockβ) traffic long enough to give drivers the chance to drop a donation in the boot! π
So when you see those firefighters out Friday evening, donβt be surprised by the Boot Blockβjust slow down, watch for firefighters, and help them fill those boots!

Fill the Boot is a longstanding partnership between firefighters and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The tradition began in 1954, when families affected by muscular dystrophy asked Boston firefighters for help raising money to fight the disease. Firefighters took to the streets with boots in hand, and a tradition was born.
More than 70 years later, firefighters across the country continue this tradition to support people living with muscular dystrophy, ALS, and related neuromuscular diseases.

Firefighters have raised more than $720 million for MDA through Fill the Boot over the decades, helping advance research and provide critical support to families.
So, if youβre driving through City of Marengo, Iowa to see Iowa Valley Tiger Football take on Montezuma Braves Football Friday evening, keep an eye out for the boots! ππ’
Please drive safely, watch for our firefighters, and consider making a donation to help Fill the Boot!
Thank you to the Marengo Fire Department for serving our communityβand for continuing this great tradition of helping others. β€οΈ
