National Hispanic Heritage (mes nacional de la herencia hispana) month is observed from September 15th to October 15th and was established by Representative George Brown, Jr. of Los Angeles. During this time, it was a week-long observation. Later, Senator Paul Simon took the initiative to make this a month-long celebration. After receiving support from President Reagan, this was signed into law.

The purpose of this month is to celebrate the rich heritage and contributions of the Hispanic community. At Anna Strong Learning Academy, students in grades 3-6 are empowering themselves with knowledge by participating in the Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Trivia. Students are given questions throughout the month, and names are drawn to determine winners from each grade level. The following students are our most recent winners. New winners will be announced next week.

In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month Javier brought his favorite Spanish candies to share with the class to honor his heritage.
