đź’š **DID YOU KNOW?** đź’š

Washington County is part of NAMI Southeast Ohio, helping connect individuals and families with mental health support, education, and resources right here in our community!

Our recent participation in the **NAMI Walk in Athens** was a great reminder of the importance of coming together, raising awareness, and letting others know they are not alone in their mental health journey. đź’š

Did you know Washington County currently has several NAMI support opportunities available?

đź’š **Family-to-Family** support groups for family members and loved ones supporting someone living with a mental health condition.

đź’š **In-person Connections** support group for individuals with lived experience to connect with others who understand.

đź’š **Virtual Connections** virtual attendance support group for individuals with lived experience to connect with others who understand

Whether you are looking for support for yourself or someone you care about, you can connect with people who understand.

đź“… **Want to learn more?** Check out the NAMI Southeast Ohio calendar for upcoming support groups, meetings, and events:

Let's keep spreading awareness, breaking down stigma, and reminding our community that **mental health matters, and no one has to walk this journey alone.** đź’š

Someone you know relies on these services.

That might sound like an exaggeration, but it is not. 1 in 5 adults lives with a mental health condition. 1 in 12 has a substance use disorder. 1 in 6 children has a treatable mental health condition.

Think about your circle. Your family. Your coworkers. The parents at your kid's school. The people you see at church, at the grocery store, at the gas pump. Someone in that group is struggling right now, or has struggled, or will struggle. And most of them are doing it quietly.

When help is available close to home, the whole community benefits. The person who gets treatment before they lose their job. The family that stays together because they got support. The kid who has a counselor at school because someone noticed. The neighbor who found recovery and is now back at work, back with their family, back in the community.

This levy is not about someone else's problem. It is about all of us. Because behind every service is a person, and that person might be someone you love.

Geoff was painting a mural downtown when a man who had not received mental health treatment aimed a gun at him. The Behavioral Health Board helped him find the support he needed after that trauma. Now he says his life is better than it would have been had it never happened.

"Behind every service is a person. Somebody you see in the grocery store when you're picking out pasta at Giant Eagle."

Recovery is hard enough. It should not have to happen without a roof over your head.

The Washington County Behavioral Health Board partners with Washington Morgan Community Action to provide housing for people who need it most.

Transitional apartments for people living with chronic mental illness. A safe, stable place to live while they get treatment and rebuild their lives.

Housing units for people with both mental health and substance use disorders. Because recovery from co-occurring disorders is even harder, and having a stable home can be the difference between getting better and falling back.

These programs exist because housing is part of healing. You cannot focus on recovery if you do not know where you are sleeping tonight.

This is one of the programs your levy helps keep going.

When someone is in a mental health crisis, the first person on the scene is often a police officer. The Crisis Intervention Team makes sure that encounter goes differently.

CIT is a program that brings together mental health professionals, advocates, courts, and those who have lived through mental illness to educate law enforcement on how to better interact with those going through a mental health crisis.

The goal is simple but important. Keep everyone safe. Connect people to mental health care instead of just jail. Reduce the trauma of the experience so it does not set back their recovery.

This is about making sure that when someone is at their worst moment, the response helps them, not just contains them.

This is one of the programs your levy helps keep going.

The earlier someone gets help, the better the outcome. That is especially true for mental health and addiction.

When a person gets support before a challenge becomes a crisis, they have a real chance to heal. A teenager showing signs of depression can get counseling before it turns into something harder to come back from. Someone early in addiction can get support before it costs them everything.

Early intervention means fewer emergencies, fewer overdoses, fewer families torn apart. It means people get help while help is still manageable.

That is what your levy helps fund. Support that reaches people early, close to home, before it is too late.
