National Preparedness Month — Day 29: Inventory Your Home

If a fire, tornado or flood damaged your home, could you remember everything you owned?

Take a few minutes to photograph or video each room. Open closets and cabinets, and record the model and serial numbers of valuable items. Save receipts or appraisals when you have them, then keep a copy of your inventory somewhere secure outside your home.

Update it whenever you make a major purchase. A little documentation now can make an insurance claim much easier later.
