Our 5th graders have been hard at work before and after break investigating which shapes could make buildings stronger during an earthquake.

This week, they finally got to put all that learning to the test! Using only toothpicks and marshmallows, students designed and built their own earthquake-resistant structures—and then it was time for the SHAKE TABLE! 😬

They tested their designs, watched to see how they held up, and saw firsthand how their engineering choices made a difference.

Their smiles said it all! 💚

Our 1st graders started as meteorologists, then became engineers, and this week they brought it all together!

After studying different types of weather, they designed and built their own rain gauges, windsocks, and anemometers. Once their builds were complete, they were ready to become official meteorologists again at our very own Addison Weather Station!

They headed outside to test their weather tools, use real thermometers, and make their own weather observations. 🌡️🌬️🌧️

Our 1st grade meteorologists were officially on the job!

🌧️ Our Kindergarteners put on their engineer hats this week!

After investigating which materials would work best, they designed and built shelters to keep their animals dry. Then came the BEST part…testing their builds!

They couldn’t believe Mrs. Barkley could make it rain! ☔ Their excitement while testing each shelter was priceless!

Way to go, little engineers! 🐊

🐊 The Great Gator Marble Race was a hit in 2nd grade!

Our young engineers investigated how marbles react to different materials, then planned and built their own marble mazes. The challenge: start on the teacher ramp, make at least 2 turns, and land in the goal! 🎯

There was lots of building, testing, problem-solving, and improving along the way. Some teams met their goal, and others discovered exactly what they’d change next time—that’s engineering!

Way to go, 2nd grade!

Our 1st graders were busy being Team Rain 🌧️ or Team Wind 💨 this week as they designed and built their very own weather tools!

Some students created rain gauges to measure precipitation, while others built anemometers and windsocks to observe and measure the wind.

Next week, they’ll go from engineers to meteorologists as we head outside to put their creations to the test and collect real weather data! 📊🌡️

We can’t wait to see how well their weather tools work!

Our Addison summer Beanstack readers had a fun morning shopping at Foundation’s Pop-Up Shop using their Gator Bucks they earned by logging their minutes. Keep reading and keep logging minutes Gators because we have more fun Beanstack surprises coming in October!
