Good afternoon, Perry County. I hope everyone is doing well today.
Due to Hurricane Isaias, a tropical storm watch is in effect for Perry County until Sunday morning. A flood watch is also active until Sunday morning.
Hurricane Isaias is a Category 3 storm that will make landfall on the central gulf coast later tonight. Potential threats include: gusty winds, possible tornadoes, and localized flooding. Tonight southern Perry County (Uniontown area) is at risk level 1 for brief, isolated tornadoes. Winds will be in the 30-40 mph range with some gusts reaching 60 mph. The most likely amount of rainfall is in between 1.5-4 inches with some areas possibly getting 5 inches. This amount of rainfall could lead to flooding of low-lying areas, roads, and rivers/creeks.
The tornado shelters are open. Check our pinned posts or use this link to find the shelter nearest to you: https://www.perrycountyal.gov/departments/emergency-management-agency/storm-shelters
Be sure to prepare for high winds, flooding, and possible power outages. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. Stay safe today!
