Retired Master Trooper Kirk Hensley, a nationally recognized law enforcement trainer, has donated $2,000 to McDowell Tech to assist students enrolled in the college’s Basic Law Enforcement Training program.

The donation will be used to help BLET cadets with expenses that can create financial barriers while they complete the intensive training required to begin careers in law enforcement.

McDowell Tech’s enrollment has grown exponentially since 2021, our first LPN-to-ADN cohort has become registered nurses, and new manufacturing career pathways are in the works with Baxter Healthcare, Smurfit Westrock, and Columbia Forest Products.

EdNC recently visited The Tech to see how we’re connecting students with career opportunities, expanding healthcare training, and making sure students have the support they need to succeed.

We’re glad to share what’s happening right here in McDowell County.
