We don’t need an "Undercover Boss" - ours is all in when it comes to rolling up his sleeves and learning alongside his teammates in the field!

Over the past year, City Manager Ryan Waller has done it all - from teaching cartwheels and inspecting road projects to caring for our parks and conducting stormwater inspections. He’s even sharpened his crack-sealing skills and spent time in the 911 communications center!

On the eve of Boss’s Day, we’re giving a big shoutout to Ryan! 👏 Thank you for your hands-on leadership, your willingness to jump in wherever you’re needed and your commitment to building a strong culture. Team Marion appreciates you!!

Each year, the Marion Fire Department hosts a fire safety poster contest for third graders in Marion to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. Creating posters is an effective learning tool that teaches children fire safety techniques and practices. It can also help them remember what to do in the event of a fire and be prepared for emergencies.

This week, Division Chief Fluharty visited each classroom to talk about fire safety and recognize the winners. Please join us in congratulating them!!

A special congrats to Avery W. whose poster received top honors and was named Best in the City! Way to go, Avery!

The water feature in the Central Plaza will be open this weekend, but come Monday it will close for the season. It looks to be a perfect weekend to get your splash on!

All good things must come to an end!

The Central Plaza water feature will be closing for the season on Monday, Oct. 12. This will give crews an opportunity to winterize it before colder weather sets in.

Here's a status update from Linn County, Iowa on the work happening on S. 31st Street, just south of Highway 100.

🚧 S 31st Street paving project update!

We’re in the home stretch! The S 31st Street paving project is nearing completion, and crews are currently wrapping up final ditch grading, seeding and pavement markings.

Over the next few weeks, the road may look ready for traffic, but a few important finishing touches still need to be completed to make sure the project is done right and the final result is built to last.

We expect S 31st Street to be fully open to traffic within the next 2-3 weeks.

Thank you for your continued patience as we finish up this project. We’re looking forward to getting the road fully open and ready for you!

This week we celebrate Fire Prevention Week and it comes with an important fire safety message for all ages.

This year’s theme, “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging Is a Superpower,” focuses on the simple steps people can take to recharge safely. Safe charging means making smart choices every time you plug in.

🔌 Use the cord and charger that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Using the wrong charger can damage the battery and increase the risk of fire.
🔌 Charge devices on a table, desk or other hard, flat surface. Do not charge them on beds, couches or under pillows. Devices and chargers produce heat during normal charging. Soft surfaces can trap heat and block airflow, which can cause the battery to overheat.
🔌 Stop using your device if it feels very hot, starts to swell, is smoking or has a strange smell. These are warning signs that the battery may be damaged or failing.
🔌 Unplug your device when it is fully charged. Do not leave it plugged in longer than needed. Leaving a device plugged in too long can increase heat and stress on the battery.
🔌 Charge larger items like e-bikes, scooters and power tools outside and away from exits. These batteries are larger and store more energy. If they fail, fires can grow quickly and spread.
🔌 When on a plane, keep your device where you can see it while charging. Do not charge devices in overhead compartments. Do not charge e-cigarettes or vapes on a plane. If a battery overheats or fails, the flight crew must respond quickly.
