Marion Police Department Arrests Suspect Following Vehicle Burglary Investigation
MARION, IL — On May 24, 2026, at approximately 2:56 a.m., officers with the Marion Police Department responded to a reported vehicle burglary at a hotel located in the 2600 block of West Main Street in Marion.
Hotel staff reported observing a female subject in the parking lot checking vehicle door handles before allegedly entering an unlocked vehicle and removing a bag. Surveillance footage captured the incident, and officers quickly relayed the suspect vehicle description to patrol units in the area.
A short time later, officers located the suspect vehicle at a nearby business on West Main Street. During the investigation, 51-year-old Misty Grady admitted to taking the bag from the vehicle. Officers recovered the stolen property, and all belongings were returned to the victim.
During a consensual search of the suspect vehicle, officers located suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Field testing indicated a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.
Grady was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Williamson County Jail.
Grady was cited for the following offenses:
• Vehicle Burglary
• Possession of Methamphetamine
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
The vehicle involved was towed from the scene, and all evidence related to the investigation was secured.
The Marion Police Department reminds residents to lock vehicle doors and avoid leaving valuables inside unattended vehicles.
All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
No further information is being released at this time.

We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming the wonderful students from Lincoln Elementary School to the Marion Police Department. They stopped by with snacks and beautiful handwritten thank you cards just for our officers.
The thoughtfulness, kind words, and big smiles from these amazing kids truly made our day. It means so much to see our community’s youngest members showing appreciation for the men and women who serve and protect them every single day.
Thank you, Lincoln Elementary students, teachers, and families, your kindness didn’t go unnoticed! We’re proud to serve such a caring community.
