The Lake Egypt Fire District would like to congratulate Firefighter Matt McComas and Firefighter Wes Chrisman for completing the Basic Firefighter, and Advanced Fire Technician certifications! Both members graduated from the program today. This was a very intense blended (online and in-person) program that teaches the basics of firefighting. Both did an outstanding job. We hope they both continue to serve the Lake Egypt Fire District for many years to come.

Thank you for the kind words! We are deeply sorry someone’s property was destroyed, however, we always strive to give the best service we possibly can. We are always happy to assist the Williamson County Fire Protection District anytime. Over the years and after hundreds of calls, we’ve developed a very close working relationship with them and other area agencies.

Another reason the Lake Egypt Fire District is a proud member of MABAS-Illinois! We are grateful for the equipment and opportunities to strengthen response capabilities and preparedness in our area. With the unfortunate intensity and frequency of disasters in our area this will be a great asset to have.

Prescribed Burn Notification – Crab Orchard National Wildlife Refuge

The Carterville Fire Department has been notified that Crab Orchard fire crews plan to conduct a prescribed burn of approximately 600 acres on the Refuge, south of John Logan College and surrounding the Greenbriar boat ramp area.

The area planned for burning is highlighted in yellow on the map provided by Refuge staff.

If conditions remain favorable:

• Smoke is expected to drift southeast over Crab Orchard Lake
• Smoke should remain away from Route 13
• Crews will be on-site throughout the operation to ensure safety

Prescribed burns are an important tool used by land managers to reduce hazardous fuels, improve habitat, and maintain the health of the Refuge ecosystem.

We’re sharing this information so residents are aware and not alarmed if they see smoke in the area today.
