I spent the last couple of days in Emporia for the Fall meetings of the To***co Commission.

I am proud that the Commission funded projects go benefit the 46th District including:

1.) An agricultural cost share program to incentivize producers to engage in innovative practices,

2.) The Great Aspirations Scholarship Program expansion to assist high school students and parents in Southwest Virginia.

3.) Expanding career pathways and work based learning at Wytheville Community College.

It’s an honor to serve on the commission and to have a part in continuing the great work that the Commission has done in Southwest and Southern Virginia for many years. The localities and citizens in the Commission’s footprint have and continue to benefit tremendously from the work of the To***co Regional Revitalization Commission!

I encourage parents to check out the Phone Safety Friday posts from Grayson County Sheriff’s Office.

There are many potential threats online and it’s important to be aware and prepared for these issues!

We're excited to introduce a new weekly series starting this Friday designed to help students, parents, and families stay informed and safe in today's digital world!

"Phone Safety Friday" will provide helpful tips, information, and reminders about cellphone safety, social media, privacy, cyber-bullying, scams, and other digital safety topics that affect children and families.

These posts are being created by our very own School Resource Officer, Deputy James Russell, with the goal of helping our community better understand the challenges young people face online and providing practical ways to keep them safe.

Knowledge is one of the best tools we have to keep our kids safe - both in person and online.

Couldn’t have asked for a better fall morning at the Chilhowie Apple Festival! 🍎

It was great joining Congressman Griffith, Commonwealth’s Attorney Phillip “Bucky” Blevins, Sheriff Chip Shuler, and Commissioner Bradley Powers and seeing so many friends and familiar faces out enjoying the beautiful day. Always a good time in Chilhowie!

Friday night football! Enjoyed being at the George Wythe at Rural Retreat game and a fundraiser for a great cause.

It was great traveling around the district this week and catching up with folks along the way.

I enjoyed stopping by Greever’s Drug Store in Chilhowie and visiting with Brent Foster, and it was good to see my friend Rick Mitchell at the Appalachian Center for Hope’s Reviving Hope in Our Backyard event in Marion. I appreciate the work they’re doing to bring people together and support recovery efforts across Southwest Virginia.

Always good to be out in the 46th and hear from the people and communities I’m proud to represent!

Congratulations to Smyth County Sheriff Chip Shuler on being sworn in as President of the Virginia Sheriff’s Association!

I know you will serve with honor and dignity in this important role and be a strong advocate for law enforcement personnel across the Commonwealth.

Congratulations, Sheriff Shuler, and best wishes for a successful term!

I enjoyed providing a General Assembly update to the Grayson County Farm Bureau membership at their annual meeting tonight.

Promoting agriculture and protecting our rural way of life are top priorities for me in Richmond. I’ll continue working tirelessly alongside great organizations like Farm Bureau to support our farmers, strengthen our rural communities, and achieve these goals.

Thank you to the Grayson County Farm Bureau for the opportunity to join you tonight!

On September 11, 2001, our nation was attacked, and our history was forever changed.

Today, 25 years later, we remember the innocent lives lost that day, those who gave their lives in the fight against terrorism, and the brave men and women who answered the call to defend our communities and our nation in the years that followed.

We will never forget.

It was great to join my General Assembly colleagues this past week for annual work sessions of both the House Health & Human Services Committee and the House Public Safety Committee. We were able to have some good discussions and participate in visits that gave us a firsthand look at the issues our committees are working on and the work being done across Virginia.

I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn more and bring that information back home as we continue working for Southwest Virginia.
