πŸš’β€οΈ LADIES, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! β€οΈπŸš’

The Marissa Fire Department is exploring the possibility of establishing a Ladies Auxiliary, and we need your input!

We are looking to gauge interest from ladies in our community who would like to help support our firefighters, fire department, and community.

A Ladies Auxiliary could play an important role in supporting the department through:

πŸš’ Fundraising & Special Events – Helping organize and support department fundraisers and activities.

❀️ Firefighter Support – Assisting our firefighters and their families when needed.

🀝 Community Outreach – Helping strengthen the connection between our department and the community.

πŸŽ‰ Department Activities – Assisting with community events, public education programs, and other department functions.

πŸ”₯ And Much More!

πŸ“‹ WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK!

At this time, we are simply gathering interest to see how many ladies would be interested in becoming involved and helping us establish a Ladies Auxiliary.

There is no commitment required to complete the survey!

πŸ“± Scan the QR code on the flyer or click the link below to complete our short interest survey!

Whether you're a firefighter's spouse, family member, friend, or simply someone who wants to give back to the community, we would love to hear from you!

❀️ You don't have to fight fires to make a difference. There are many ways to support those who do!

Please help us spread the word by sharing this post with anyone who may be interested!

πŸš’ GRAIN BIN RESCUE EQUIPMENT & TRAINING! 🌾🚜

Earlier this year we asked for your help nominating our department to win a set of grain bin rescue tools!

The Marissa Fire Department is excited to announce that our department was one of 83 departments nationwide to receive the grant!

This equipment was made possible with your help and through a generous grant from the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS), supported by Nationwide Insurance and Grain Bin Safety Week.

🌽 Grain bin emergencies are extremely dangerous and time-sensitive. Having the proper rescue equipment and training is critical to giving trapped individuals the best possible chance of survival.

Tonight’s hands-on training with members from Tilden Fire Department and Sparta Fire Department provided our firefighters with valuable knowledge and practical experience in utilizing these specialized rescue tools during agricultural emergencies.

Serving a rural farming community, we understand the importance of being prepared for the unique emergencies that can occur on local farms and agricultural operations.

πŸ‘ We would like to extend a sincere THANK YOU to National Education Center for Agricultural Safety, Nationwide insurance and everyone involved with Grain Bin Safety Week for making this opportunity possible, and Kevin Luthy with Luthy Farms for donating the grain to make this training possible! Their continued commitment to agricultural safety helps volunteer fire departments like ours better protect the communities we serve.

πŸš’ Better Equipment. Better Training. Better Prepared to Serve.

SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 β€” WE WILL NEVER FORGET

Twenty-five years ago today, America awoke to a beautiful September morning that would forever change our nation.

At 8:46 a.m., the first plane struck the North Tower of the World Trade Center. In the hours that followed, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were taken, families were forever changed, and our nation witnessed a tragedy that remains difficult to comprehend even a quarter-century later.

But amid the fear, smoke, fire, and unimaginable destruction, we also witnessed extraordinary courage.

While thousands were desperately trying to escape, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics, and other emergency personnel were running toward the danger.

They climbed stairwells carrying tools, hose, medical equipment, and the weight of knowing that people above them needed help. They entered buildings others were fleeing. They treated the injured, directed people to safety, searched for the trapped, and continued forward even as conditions deteriorated around them.

441 first responders made the ultimate sacrifice that day.

Among them were 343 members of the FDNY and 23 members of the NYPD who also gave their lives.

Members of the Port Authority Police Department, private EMS services, and other emergency responders also lost their lives.

But the sacrifice of September 11th did not end when the smoke cleared.

In the days and months that followed, thousands of firefighters, police officers, EMS personnel, construction workers, volunteers, and other responders worked at Ground Zero through dangerous dust, debris, smoke, and toxic contaminants. Many later developed cancers, respiratory diseases, and other illnesses associated with their service there. Hundreds of FDNY members alone have since died from World Trade Center-related illnesses.

For those of us in the fire service, 343 is more than a number.

It represents 343 firefighters and officers who reported for duty and never returned home.

343 empty seats at kitchen tables.

343 sets of turnout gear that would never be worn again.

343 families who received the news every firefighter's family fears.

And 343 reminders of what the words service, courage, brotherhood, and sacrifice truly mean.

Today, the Marissa Fire Department remembers every innocent person whose life was taken on September 11, 2001. We remember the firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMTs, paramedics, military personnel, dispatchers, and countless others who answered the call. We remember those who survived but carried the physical and emotional wounds of that day. And we remember those who have died in the years since because of illnesses connected to their work at Ground Zero.

Many young firefighters serving today were not yet born when the towers fell. That makes our responsibility to remember even greater.

We must tell their stories.
We must remember their names.
We must honor their sacrifice.

And we must never forget the courage displayed when ordinary people were confronted with extraordinary circumstances.

May we never forget September 11, 2001.
May we never forget the 343.
May we never forget the 441 first responders.
May we never forget the nearly 3,000 lives taken that day.

And may we always remember those who ran toward danger so that others might have a chance to make it home.
