On May 29, Jaworek Elementary School proudly hosted its inaugural Inclusion Fair, where fifth grade students had the opportunity to learn about disabilities and the tools that support individuals with disabilities. From walking on crutches to navigating hallways in wheelchairs to learning sign language, our students gained invaluable insights through hands-on experience.

We are immensely proud of the Jaworek School and our district-wide special education staff and faculty members for their commitment to creating and hosting events that foster a unified district. Their dedication to embracing, celebrating and uplifting all students, both with and without disabilities, is truly inspiring!

Each year, the United Brethren of Freemasons opens nominations for the prestigious Masonic Teacher of the Year award. This year, our three finalists, nominated by their peers, were Nicholas Rolando, a special education teacher at Marlborough High School; Laura Kyle, an adjustment counselor at Richer School; and Nicole Thomas, an English Language Arts teacher at Whitcomb Middle School.

On May 29, Ms. Thomas was surprised by Masonic members, along with Mayor Dumais, School Committee Vice Chair Mrs. Bodin-Hettinger, School Committee member Mr. Caruso, Superintendent Dr. DeFalco, Principal House and other district and community leaders, with the news that she had been selected as the 2026 Masonic Teacher of the Year. While Ms. Thomas was shocked and speechless, her students exclaimed, "Miss, I told you that you were going to win!" and "We all told you!"

Congratulations to Ms. Thomas for this well-deserved honor, and to our peer-nominated finalists, Nicholas and Laura!

Whitcomb Middle School held its first-ever Civics Students Showcase on May 22, and it was a truly impactful event.

Our eighth grade students impressed everyone with their passion and the preparation they put into their projects. They covered important topics that affect their peers and our community, such as substance use in adolescence, school start times and religious freedom. Our sixth and seventh graders also contributed significantly by asking insightful questions and demonstrating active listening skills.

We commend our civics team, Jacquie Carter and Caroline Cadel, for making this inaugural event a success. Their dedication is helping to prepare our students to become engaged and responsible members of our community.

This month on Super Saturday, Superintendent Dr. DeFalco sits down with three outstanding Marlborough High School seniors, Nick Andrade, Sloz Patel and Allison Ryan, as they reflect on their experiences at Marlborough High School and prepare for graduation.
Athletics, music, academics, friendships and future plans are all part of this heartfelt conversation about the opportunities, diversity and culture that shaped their high school journey. They also offer advice for incoming freshmen and discuss the lessons they’ll carry with them into college and beyond.

Nick and Sloz will both attend UMass Amherst to study finance, while Allison heads to Westfield State University to explore her future through the school’s undeclared studies program.

This inspiring conversation highlights the incredible students, programs and community that make MHS such a special place. Tune in now!

Each year, students at Richer School participate in the annual poster contest organized by the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority. The theme of the contest changes each year, and this year, students were encouraged to explore topics related to water and sewer systems, conservation and environmental protection.

Our very own Manny Casillas III from Ms. Bordanca's second-grade class won second place in the K-2 category. The winners of the contest were recognized at an awards reception held on Friday at the MWRA Deer Island Plant in Winthrop. All winning entries will be displayed at the Metropolitan Waterworks Museum until September 2026.

Way to go, Manny!

The countdown to summer is on at Richer Elementary School and across our district, and we are making the final weeks of school count!

As we approach the exciting end of the year, the staff and faculty at Richer School are focusing on academics and assessments while creating lasting memories for our students. On Wednesday, they brought together students from the highest and lowest grade levels for a group photo to commemorate one of the last times they will all be in the same building together.

We are incredibly proud of our fifth-grade students for their dedication and for inspiring our younger learners to continue growing and learning. Best of luck to all our students moving up next year! We can't wait to see the wonderful things the future has in store for them.

On Friday, we had an exciting adventure as some students from our Learning in Functional Environments Program visited Middlesex Savings Bank in Hudson for a tour!

Designed for individuals ages 18-22 with disabilities who haven’t received a regular high school diploma, our LIFE program aims to equip these young adults with essential life skills. During the visit, our LIFE program participants learned what a bank is, how to interact with a bank teller and even got hands-on experience using an ATM.

We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Middlesex Savings Bank to develop an engaging and accessible banking curriculum for our MHS programs. This tour was just the beginning of many exciting opportunities we have in store with them!
