The Lyon County Sheriff's Office was grateful to be able to participate in such an impactful event. We would like to thank the Marshall High School and the MHS ACTS team for the coordination of the event which brought awareness to the dangers distracted and drunk driving. We would also like to thank all of the law enforcement, fire, and EMS agencies that helped make this event possible.

Last week Deputy Matt Boettger from your Lyon County Sheriff’s Office helped with keeping all of the kids from Saint Edward’s School in Minneota safe as they walked over 2 miles and raised roughly $32,000 for their school fundraiser.

We are always happy to help support our local schools as they are key in shaping our future leaders.

LOCAL CUB SCOUT TROOPS VISIT YOUR SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Earlier this week two local Cub Scout troops visited the Sheriff's Office to learn about our local law enforcement, the requirements to be a police officer, the 911 dispatch center, and our patrol cars.

Many great questions were asked, and a lot of fun was had by everyone. We appreciate you taking the time to visit with us.

Marshall FD will be out driving around for EDITH tonight. They will have their lights and sirens on as they drove around.

We generally get quite a few calls in our dispatch center wondering what is going on, so if you hear them tonight, that is why.

This is a good time to go over your exit drills in the home and remind your kiddos and everyone on where to meet and other fire safety measures.

DEPUTY DEMUTH RECEIVES AWARD!

At the 09/15/2026 meeting of the Lyon County Board of Commissioners, Lyon County Deputy, Dustin Demuth, was presented a life saving award by Sheriff Eric Wallen and Lyon County resident, Paula Goblish.

On 08//28/2026, Ms. Goblish suffered a medical emergency that could have easily been a life threatening situation. Deputy Demuth responded and was able to administer life saving treatment to Ms. Goblish prior to the arrival of the responding ambulance.

Lyon County is fortunate to have the ability to administer EMT level care with Deputy Demuth thanks to a partnership with the Tracy Ambulance. Deputy Demuth works part-time as an EMT for Tracy Ambulance, and is able to act as an EMT while working as deputy in Lyon County. In this particular situation, Deputy Demuth was able to provide more advanced care 15 minutes sooner than could have been provided by the local ambulance service do to the distance the ambulance had to travel.

Congratulations Deputy Demuth, keep up the good work!

Throughout the day citizens across this great country recognized the men and women tragically lost on September 11, 2001.

As a tribute to those citizens, along with the fire fighters, police officers, and EMS personnel who gave their lives to save others; members of your Lyon County Sheriff’s Office participated in the MN Sheriffs’ Association 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Challenge.

Sgt. Adam Connor and his wife showed their Panther Pride and climbed the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs at the Tracy High School Football Field.

Sheriff Eric Wallen stayed closer to home and climbed 110 flights of stairs in the Lyon County Government Center.

Climbing each flight of stairs, representing each floor of the World Trade Center Towers, gave opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made by those heroes on that tragic day.

Your Sheriff,

Eric Wallen

MINNESOTA 9/11 STAIR CLIMB

2026 marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th, 2001, attacks-a day that forever changed our nation and the public safety community.

To honor the memory of the 343 firefighters, 60 law enforcement officers, and thousands of civilians who lost their lives, the Lyon County Sheriff's Office is participating in the Minnesota Sheriffs' Association Statewide 9/11 Stair-Climb Challenge.

Members of your Sheriff's Office are volunteering to commemorate the heroic efforts of first responders on 9/11 by climbing the equivalent of 110 flights of stairs, representing the number of floors in the World Trade Center Towers.

If you see a member of our team walking up and down flights of stairs repeatedly, between now and September 11th, they are not lost, we are taking a moment to honor the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect their community.
