Landfall on the Gulf Coast is expected Friday night or early Saturday. The center of the storm is forecast to pass to our west, but heavy rain and strong winds will reach well beyond the center. Here is what the forecast means for Madison County this weekend.
🌧️ RAIN
• Heaviest rain: Saturday into early Sunday.
• In Madison County, the current forecast shows about 1-2 inches with some areas getting 2-4 inches. Forecasters note that local totals could end up higher.
• While we are not in the Flood Watch, minor flooding is possible along streams and in low lying areas. Widespread significant flooding on main stem rivers is currently unlikely.
💨 WIND
• Winds increase late Friday into Saturday morning and begin to weaken on Sunday.
• Gusts of 25 to 35 mph are likely in most mountain areas, with gusts of 45 to 60 mph at elevations above 3,000 feet.
• Strong gusts can bring down trees and power lines.
⛈️ SEVERE STORMS
The risk of severe thunderstorms and isolated tornadoes this weekend is focused east of the mountains, across the Piedmont and Coastal Plain.
✅ WHAT WE ARE ASKING YOU TO DO NOW
• Charge phones and backup batteries, and check flashlights.
• Bring in or tie down anything the wind can move.
• If you live near a creek or in a spot that floods, know how you would get to higher ground.
• Never drive through water covering a road. Turn around, don't drown.
• Have more than one way to receive warnings, especially overnight.
