It was a hot one out there today, which made it a great day for water training! If we don’t train in the water, they won’t know what to do when it’s time to work in it! We try to expose Bosco to several different environments that he may encounter while working the street. Thanks to Altoona Police K9 for hosting training today!

And we thank k9 Lizzy and Jorah on National K9 day, too.

Do you know?

Police K9's such as Bosco, Liz and Jorah have to obtain an annual certification in the skills that they are trained in.

In this case, Bosco will be certifying soon in Patrol skills - which will include obedience, evidence searching, human scent detection and apprehension skills.

Bosco and Liz both have to certify annually in narcotic detection - that means that they are tested in their ability to find hidden narcotics (Methamphetamine, Co***ne, He**in and Fentanyl) in vehicles and indoors.

Jorah certifies annually in gun detection - meaning she is tested in her ability to locate guns and ammo in vehicles, grassy areas and indoors.

Bosco certified with a GREAT score in April in narcotics. Liz and Jorah just certified a few days ago. All the dogs certify through the United States Police Canine Association

It is important that we keep our skills up and test our dogs annually to make sure all that training is paying off! Good job Bosco, Liz and Jorah!

The Marshall County Sheriff's Office is proud to recognize Deputy Hunt and K9 Bosco for receiving the Hal Hetland Patrol Case of the Year Award from Code Blue K9.

This award recognizes exceptional K9 patrol work and honors the legacy of Hal Hetland, a dedicated supporter of law enforcement and police K9 programs throughout his lifetime. Following his passing, the Hetland family has continued that legacy by supporting and recognizing the outstanding work of K9 teams throughout the Midwest.

Deputy Hunt and K9 Bosco were honored for their actions during a 2025 deployment involving a wanted subject that was possibly armed with a handgun. After law enforcement responded to a drug-related call, the subject fled by jumping from a second-story window and hiding in a nearby wooded area. Despite heavy rain conditions, K9 Bosco successfully tracked the individual through a creek and into a thick wooded area.

When the subject failed to comply with officers' commands, K9 Bosco was deployed to assist in the apprehension, allowing officers to safely take the individual into custody. Thanks to the training, dedication, and teamwork of Deputy Hunt and K9 Bosco, officers were able to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.

As a result of this incident, the defendant was ultimately convicted and sentenced to prison on his prior cases, as well as drug-related charges stemming from this investigation.

We are incredibly proud of Deputy Hunt and K9 Bosco for this well-deserved recognition and grateful for their continued commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of Marshall County.

Please join us in congratulating Deputy Hunt and K9 Bosco on this outstanding achievement!
