What’s Up Wednesday: 5th Grade Historians Craft Ancient Codices!

Our 5th graders are wrapping up a research unit in literacy that brought the ancient Maya, Aztec, and Inca civilizations to life!

To put their research and writing skills to work, students chose a focused lens—analyzing ancient farming practices, architectural wonders, or social hierarchies—to write detailed compare-and-contrast essays across these three great civilizations.

This week, our 6th graders are stepping into the spotlight for their very first Scientific Seminar of the school year!

To cap off their unit on Metabolism, students are putting their critical thinking to the test to answer a complex academic question. Taking on the roles of analytical researchers, they are choosing claims, pulling concrete evidence from scientific articles and case studies, and preparing to present their arguments in a respectful, student-led debate. The challenge? Persuading their peers using solid facts and logic!

What’s Up Wednesday: 5th Grade Astronomers Uncover Ancient Mysteries! 🌌📜

Our 5th graders recently wrapped up their first science unit, Patterns of Earth and Sky, by stepping into the shoes of professional astronomers on a high-stakes mission!

Students were asked to assist a team of archaeologists in deciphering symbols on a thousand-year-old artifact—one that was missing a key section. To figure out what that missing piece looked like, these young scientists used physical models, digital simulations (SIMs), and interactive investigations to explore how Earth’s spin and orbit cause the daily and yearly patterns of stars in our night sky.
