Had the opportunity to walk the Martinez Farmers Market this morning and ran into District 1 Council Member Jay Howard.

It’s always great to see our community out enjoying everything the market has to offer. From local vendors to great food, there’s something for everyone.

If you missed it this weekend, come check it out next Sunday!

Some people leave Martinez, but Martinez never really leaves them.

One of those people is Milo, a former shift supervisor at the Starbucks in the Virginia Hills Shopping Center who recently moved to Sacramento to continue his education. Like so many others who spend time in our community—whether they live here, work here, or are simply passing through—Milo became part of what makes Martinez such a special place.

I’ve been with the Martinez Police Department for nearly 10 years, and one thing has never changed: this city is defined by its people. Whether you’re grabbing coffee at Starbucks or one of our local craft coffee shops, you’ll find genuinely kind, hardworking people who make this community feel like home.

It was my pleasure to get to know Milo during countless early mornings and late nights when coffee was the only thing getting me through a shift. He was always friendly, positive, and welcoming. The same can be said for so many of the baristas throughout our city who brighten someone’s day with nothing more than a smile and a conversation.

Recently, I learned that while Milo was at work, a fire left his apartment uninhabitable. Thankfully, no one was injured, but he lost most of his belongings and has been left with only a few bags of clothing while he searches for a new place to live. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

When I heard what had happened, I felt compelled to share the GoFundMe organized by his brother. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help provide temporary housing and assist Milo as he begins rebuilding after this unexpected loss.

If you’re able, please consider supporting someone who spent years making our community a little brighter. Milo may have left Martinez, but I hope the kindness he showed others here comes back to him when he needs it most.

On behalf of the Martinez Police Officers’ Association, thank you for your time, your generosity, and for continuing to show what makes Martinez such an extraordinary community.

The Martinez Police Officers Association would like to extend our sincere thanks to Walmart for their generous donation of 40 children’s bicycles during the Walmart Martinez Grand Re-Opening celebration.

Community partnerships like this make a real difference. We are proud to accept this donation on behalf of the Martinez Police Department and grateful for Walmart’s continued commitment to supporting the Martinez community.

The MPOA has partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Martinez to identify children and families who will benefit most from these bicycles, ensuring they are placed in the hands of local kids who need them.

Together, we can continue building a stronger, safer, and more connected community.

Thank you, Walmart, for investing in Martinez and helping create smiles that will last far beyond today.
