A little Joltin’ Joe lore…

San Francisco Examiner Press Photo - 2-26-92 - Joltin Joe. Harbor Master Barry Wysling is tying off the boat once owned by Joe DiMaggio, which he donated to the City of Martinez. She began life as an elegant 1948 Chris Craft pleasure boat which was gifted to him by the fans of New Haven Connecticut, in 1949.

Joe was born in Martinez, and he gave the boat to relatives who were active commercial fishermen here. There are stories that Joe brought his 2nd wife Marilyn Monroe here to Martinez for a boat ride after their 1954 marriage in San Francisco.

The boat eventually fell into disrepair, but remained active as a utility boat with a makeshift cabin, until it was given to the City of Martinez. It languished as an outdoor display in the Marina until a few years ago, when local volunteers did a thorough rebuild. It's now an award winning entrant in wooden boat shows around the state.
