MARSHALL COUNTY PUBLIC NOTICE: EMERGENCY DECLARATION & HIGH WATER UPDATE
Marshall County has officially issued a Local Declaration of Emergency following recent heavy rainfall and potential infrastructure damage across the county.
We want to stress that we do not yet know the full extent of the damage, but we are taking proactive steps now to position our county for recovery and ensure public safety.
Here are the key details heading into the weekend:
RIVER STAGES & CURRENT CONDITIONS
Some rivers and streams across Marshall County are still rising and are not expected to crest until over the weekend.
Water levels will remain elevated, and conditions can change quickly. Please stay alert near waterways and low-water crossings.
ATTENTION TOWNSHIP BOARDS & ROAD CREWS
If your township is out monitoring, barricading, or actively repairing roads over the weekend, detailed documentation is critical...
Where: Note exact locations (road names, nearest intersections, etc).
What: Document the specific damages found and what work/materials were required to repair them.
Photos: Take clear photos of the damage before and after repairs, and if possible use an app to tag the GPS coordinates of the location of the photo!
Keep track of equipment hours, labor, and material costs.
FEMA & DISASTER FUNDING
At this stage, we are not sure if Kansas or Marshall County, will qualify for FEMA or state disaster assistance.
However, we are trying to be proactive to make sure if we are ready if we are eligible. Having thorough documentation from every township will be vital if assistance becomes available down the road.
SAFETY REMINDERS
Never drive through flooded roads or around road closed barricades:
Turn Around, Don't Drown!
Report major road washouts or hazardous conditions to dispatch or local authorities.
We will continue monitoring river gauges and working alongside local officials throughout the weekend.
Thank you to our county public works and township crews, first responders, and road departments working hard to keep Marshall County safe!
