📚 A quick pause as we prepare for something new!
Friday, Oct. 30, will be the last day of library services at our temporary location, wrapping up with our Trick-or-Treat event at the Government Center.

The temporary closure will give our team time to move library materials, set up computers and workstations, and prepare the renovated space for reopening. Focusing on the transition will help us get everything ready to welcome the community back as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience during this transition. We’re excited to welcome you into the newly renovated space soon and will follow up when we have a date for our grand reopening!

Last week we had story time at Bishop’s Pumpkin Farm with Family Soup! We did music and movement, read fun stories, made a cute train craft, and even had a feathered friend decide they wanted to listen in. Join us tomorrow (10/21) from 10-11:30 as we return to the farm to have story time in the pumpkin patch! This time Yuba County Health and Human Services will meet you near the entrance, give you a tour of the farm, and share about pedestrian safety before leading you to the prizewinning pumpkin fields for story time.

Here are some photos from our first story time at Bishop's Pumpkin Farm in September. We did music and movement and read the books: "Pumpkins Pumpkins Everywhere", "Meowl-O-Ween", "Ghost Says Meow", and "Pumpkin Dad". Afterwards kids made their own pumpkin farm tractor.

Tomorrow, October 21st, is our last trip to Bishop's Pumpkin Farm. The forecast predicts rain that day, but it should be nice during our planned story time (10-11:30AM). Remember this story time Yuba County Health & Human Services will meet you near the entrance, take families on a walking tour, and share about pedestrian safety. Afterwards, they will lead you to the prizewinning pumpkin fields for music and movement, stories, and a cute craft! This event is free and open to everyone.

Last month we were visited by Jessica Rzeszut, NASA Solar System Ambassador, who shared about the newly launched Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope will have a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, will be able to block starlight to see planets beyond our solar system, and settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy. This was a wonderful program, and we plan to bring Jessica Rzeszut back sometime in the future. If you would like information on the telescope, click on the link below: https://science.nasa.gov/mission/roman-space-telescope/

Last month we held a virtual story time with a park ranger at Hearst Castle. The park ranger read the book "How a House is Built" by Gail Gibbons. After the story the park ranger shared about William Randolph Hearst's ideas/inspirations for his home, architect Julia Morgan who built it, and about the unique elements Hearst requested be added. We were given a quick tour of the Neptune Pool, but then were able to see inside two cottages: Casa del Monte and Casa del Mar. Afterwards, children designed their own house.

While the library's California State Park Pass does not give you free entry into Hearst Castle, you can visit Hearst San Simeon State Park with it. Park Passes can be checked out by anyone who has a valid Yuba County Library card and can be kept for 21 days before they must be returned to the Yuba County Library. For more information on the California State Park Pass or on Julia Morgan's contributions to the Yuba-Sutter area, reach out to library staff at [email protected].

Last month we had a special story time with Adventist Health Miss Nicole read the books “On an Ambulance” and “Maisey’s Ambulance”. Afterwards, Miss Nicole showed kids and parents how to do hands only CPR and the children were able to practice on stuffed animals and a dummy, even the littlest child gave it a try. While Miss Nicole shared about heart attack warning signs, children made a healthy happy heart. Then we went outside and blew bubbles, a treat given by Miss Nicole.
