43 North Iowa 43 North Iowa - Helping people find their way through home, employment and community experiences.

Since 1969, 43 North Iowa , through its predecessors NIVC Services, Inc. and North Iowa Transition Center, has provided support for north Iowans with disabilities. Our mission, Helping people find their way through home, employment and community experiences, guides our programs. Transitional residential and community living supports help those with mental health diagnoses find their way back to community living. Training and employment services help over 300 people with disabilities earn nearly $2 million dollars in wages each year. These earnings benefit our clients, their families, and local businesses. Social and recreational activities, supported community living, help individuals engage in their own communities.

Congratulations to Jillian Menning who was voted the October Shields Up Award winner! 🛡 Jillian is a Compliance Coordinator at the Admin building and was nominated by Theresa Price.

In her nomination, Theresa said:
"Jillian is one of those people who quietly keeps a million moving pieces on track and somehow makes it look easy. As one of our Compliance Coordinators/QIQA team members, she stays on top of staff training, manages the ever-changing meetings and training calendar (which is truly a beast!), and helps ensure we are all prepared to provide the best possible care to our clients while meeting important requirements and standards. On top of all that, Jillian has taken on the new Business Partnership program through NIACC, helping connect staff with some really great learning and development opportunities. She is dependable, organized, always willing to help, and, just as importantly, delightful and fun to work with. Jillian does so much behind the scenes to help the rest of us succeed, and she is incredibly deserving of some Shields Up recognition!"

Congratulations, Jillian!! 👏

Sometimes, progress isn't just about where you are. It's about how far you've come and the people you're able to reach along the way. 💙

What a difference one year has made for our RCF-PMI!

Our former facility had creaky floors, drafty rooms, shared bedrooms, and limited accessibility. When the needs of those we served grew more complex, we made the decision to reduce our capacity from 15 to 12, giving everyone their own bedroom. It meant serving fewer people, but prioritizing their privacy, dignity, and comfort.

Today, our new facility features 15 private, fully accessible rooms, allowing us to serve more people while ensuring everyone has the space, comfort, and dignity they deserve!

📈 The numbers tell the story:
- 30 people served in the 12 months before our move.
- 40 people served in the 12 months since our move. That's a 33% increase!
- 24 individuals have successfully transitioned to a lower or more appropriate level of care.
- 15 individuals continue receiving services with us.

For those who have transitioned, the next chapter looks different for everyone. Some have moved into more independent living arrangements, others have connected with employment supports, and eight have returned to communities closer to home and their support systems.

While the average stay is 6–9 months, progress doesn't follow a calendar. Every person deserves the time, care, and support they need to build stability and take their next step.

These numbers represent so much more than admissions and discharges. They represent people rebuilding their lives, finding stability, and moving forward with dignity.

We're incredibly proud of our RCF-PMI team and grateful for the community support that helped make this transformation possible.

Because a building is just a building. What matters is what happens inside it, and the lives we have the privilege of being part of. 💙

As winter approaches, local organizations are coordinating services so that ‘No One Sleeps Outside’ in Mason City unless they choose to. Because the barriers facing individuals and families experiencing homelessness can be complex, the Vulnerable Community Coalition is working together to improve communication and care. Starting today, shelter beds at The Beacon: Freedom Inn His Grace are open for the season. Beds are also available, as space allows, at the Northern Lights Men’s and Women’s Shelters and at 43 North Iowa Crisis Stabilization Unit. Friends of the Family partners with these agencies to provide onsite housing assessments and diversion services that help individuals and families move from shelter into permanent housing opportunities.
