Give a warm welcome to this month’s employee spotlight, Deputy Vincent!

Deputy Vincent recently started work in area schools as the . Before working in Law Enforcement, he worked as security officer at Sparrow Hospital with a narcotics K-9. He holds Bachelor’s degrees in both psychology and sociology and explained learning de-escalation and subject control as part of his role in social work positions he held with the State of Michigan. He cited his work as a server as one of the main jobs that prepared him to work in law enforcement.

“It’s funny, because you can study it all you want, but until you get out in the world…the job is about talking to and relating to people…that real world experience around people is the best thing for this job.”

In the police academy:

“If you don’t have the life experience to back up this knowledge you’re going to be nervous. The more experience you have — like if you got in a little trouble when you were a kid — you can relate to someone who’s getting in trouble right now.”

Vincent has worked with the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office for 2 ½ years and has experienced a lot of variety in Ingham County from out county night shift to Webberville.

“My whole thing is making sure I’m approachable; and we’re here to help not to get people legally jammed up at school.”

Deputy Vincent spoke at length about mental and physical fitness. He explained that in his down time he runs mental scenarios in his mind and imagines the appropriate reactions to each situation, describing it as doing, ‘mental reps.’ Along with that he stays relevant on case law and tries to study those when he can.

When he’s not at work, Deputy Vincent practices Brazilian Jiujutsu, spends time with pets, and plays Dungeons and Dragons. He enjoys scrabble, sushi, and fall weather.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Lansing Midnight Run with us!

There were 100 runners and 25 bicyclists who came out at midnight to enjoy the late-night air and raise money for Special Olympics through the Law Enforcement Torch Run. Shout-out to the Michigan State Police Recruit Academy, who showed up and raised an impressive amount of money.

And, of course, thank you to our generous community for donating and supporting our team!
