Here is your annual get out of leaf clean up ticket! 🎫

🚜Consider mowing leaves to break them up and encourage faster decomposition. This will add organic matter to your lawn and act as free fertilizer.

🐝Additionally, designating places in your yard to let leaves stay where they fall supplies essential habitat for over wintering insects including pollinators.

Reducing stormwater runoff is the best way to stop the pollution it carries. Green infrastructure, rain barrels, and rain gardens are all great examples of ways to capture rainwater and force it to soak into the ground. Redirecting down spouts and lawn sprinklers away from sidewalks, driveways, and patios can reduce it too.

As nitrates from agriculture fields or manicured lawns find their way into water ways via stormwater it can lead to alga blooms. Organic matter breaking down in water ways can lead to the same spike in nutrient levels.
