⚠️ TRAIL CLOSURE ALERT ⚠️

A section of the Green Trail at Cheesequake State Park is temporarily closed (mile markers 1.9 to 2.5) due to downed trees and flooding from the recent nor'easter.

🥾 Detour: Please use Museum Road to bypass this section.

Our park staff is working diligently to clear debris and make repairs. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Today concluded the Kayak Eco-Tours of Cheesequake Creek for the summer 2026 Season. We want to give a huge thank you to everyone who paddled with us! 🚣‍♀️ You all made this an unforgettable season, and we hope to see you on more adventures.

Kayak Eco-Tours will resume in the spring of 2027!

Watch as an Osprey perches at Cheesequake State Park, sounding its distinctive alarm call.

These impressive birds of prey are specially adapted for fishing and are a familiar sight soaring above New Jersey’s coastal bays and marshes from spring through early fall.

In 2025, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Fish & Wildlife staff and volunteers documented 689 active Osprey nests statewide.

This monarch is just about ready to emerge from their chrysalis! 🦋

When the monarch caterpillar is ready to begin metamorphosis, their transition into an adult butterfly, they find a safe spot where they can be seen hanging in a "J" shape and molt for the final time into a chrysalis.

The chrysalis is a striking green color with gold specs. This coloring helps to reflect light and camouflage them among the vegetation. They stay in the chrysalis for up to 14 days, turning into liquid before reforming into a winged adult. When the chrysalis turns fully transparent, the butterfly is about ready to emerge and begin stretching out its wings to take flight!

As you hike our trails, please remember to keep it clean and green! New Jersey State Parks are carry-in and carry-out. We recommend bringing a trash bag or two to properly dispose of any waste. Don’t forget to recycle when you can! ♻️
