I want to take a minute to reflect on this day and the anniversary of 911. Do you all remember where you were when this happened? I remember it vividly; I was driving downtown Dayville, CT, on my way back from picking up safety awards for the crew at the job in CT. The radio went from music to the news flash of a plane hitting the World Trade Center. My first thought was probably a small scenic flight lost in the fog, hitting one of the towers. As I got back to the job site, all the office staff for the general contractor and others were jumping into vehicles and riding back to their places; they stayed to watch the TVs. I tried to get online to see what was happening, but due to high internet traffic at the time, I couldn't get anything for about 30 minutes. When I finally got a video to pop up on my computer, it was of the second plane hitting the second tower. My heart jumped into my throat because both towers were now burning profusely. I sort of let out a "WTF is happening?" out loud in the office, and my boss asked me what the hell I was yelling about, so I made him go online and see what I was seeing. I suddenly realized this country had been under attack. Because we did not have high-speed internet at the office like the main office, the video was spotty and kept dropping due to network congestion. When the towers came down, all my thoughts were with the firefighters, EMTs, and police officers running up the stairs to help their fellow citizens, as they were trained to do. Ignoring the danger, knowing this might not end well. Today we remember the sacrifices these rescuers made to help save others. The 25th anniversary of that attack and the loss of 343 fellow firefighters.
We will never forget
