Today, the African American Heritage Foundation presents Creole Rendezvous at the legendary Heymann Park. Free and family friendly, so bring everybody and show your support.

This gathering comes from Je’Nelle Alfred Chargois. She was the voice of The Open Line on KJCB, president of the Lafayette NAACP, and the woman behind Senior Citizens Thank You Day and the Heritage Parade. In 2014 she chartered the African American Heritage Foundation to hold all of that work together. She started Creole Rendezvous about ten years ago, and her purpose never changed: bring the community together and keep our culture in front of the people it belongs to.

Since her passing in 2018, her children Maisha and Jared and the foundation’s people have kept that promise. They show up for this community year after year, and they give back far more than they take.

There are a lot of events in Southwest Louisiana. This one is close to our hearts, because we know the work behind it. Everything this foundation produces is intentional and made with the community in mind.

The music this afternoon is The Creole Connection, playing traditional Creole French music. There will be arts and crafts vendors and authentic Creole favorites, and the theme is Creole Proud. Creole Strong.

1 to 5 PM, Heymann Park, 1500 S. Orange St., Lafayette. No ice chests.

What a night! ✨ Members of the African American Heritage Foundation were proud to attend the 5th Annual "At My Very Best" Gala hosted by the 100 Black Men of Greater Lafayette.

Congratulations to the 100 on five years of celebrating excellence, mentoring our youth, and showing up for this community. It was an honor to stand alongside so many people who pour into Lafayette every single day. The work you do reminds us why we keep building — together.

Thank you for having us, and here's to many more years of being at our very best. 💛🖤
