The City of Mayfield Heights recognizes National Fire Prevention Week and joins communities across the country in promoting the importance of fire prevention and fire safety.

This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging is a Superpower,” focuses on safe everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep our homes, families, and community safer.

During Fire Prevention Week, take a few minutes to review your charging habits:

🔋 Use the charging equipment recommended by the manufacturer.
🔌 Plug chargers directly into appropriate outlets and avoid damaged cords or equipment.
📱 Charge devices on a hard, stable surface, not on beds, couches, or other combustible materials.
⚠️ Stop using batteries or devices that show signs of damage, overheating, swelling, or unusual odors.
🏠 Never block an exit with charging equipment, e-bikes, e-scooters, or other battery-powered devices.

Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility. Let’s charge into fire safety together!

🚨 September is National Preparedness Month 🚨

This year’s theme, “Stand Ready,” is a reminder that emergencies and disasters can happen at any time. Taking a few simple steps now can help you and your family be ready when it matters most.

During National Preparedness Month, take some time to:

✅ Make a plan – Know how your family will communicate, where you’ll meet, and what you’ll do during an emergency.

✅ Build a kit – Have water, nonperishable food, medications, flashlights, batteries, first-aid supplies, and other essentials available.

✅ Stay informed – Know how you’ll receive emergency alerts and important information in your community.

✅ Know your needs – Include children, older adults, family members with disabilities, pets, and necessary medications in your emergency planning.

✅ Practice your plan – Make sure everyone in your household knows what to do and where to go.

Preparedness starts before the emergency. Take time this September to make a plan, build your kit, and Stand Ready.
