Re: Two men arrested after running from police Monday.

On Monday October 12, 2026 at 12:30PM, a 2011 Nissan Altima was observed with a fictitious Tennessee license plate travelling in the area of Barton Drive and Paris Road. A traffic stop was attempting on the vehicle but the driver failed to yield and stop, proceeding onto to Commonwealth Drive and then into an apartment complex. Once there, both the driver and passenger jumped from the vehicle and ran in opposite directions. The driver was apprehended, but the passenger ran across the bypass, jumped a fence and into a field.

The driver only possessed a Honduras ID card, identifying him only as 42-year-old Oscar Orlando.

He was charged with multiple offenses including No Insurance, Fleeing or Evading Police, Resisting Arrest, No Operators License, and other related charges. The true owner of the Nissan has not been identified.

The passenger that eluded officers was later that day apprehended after he was observed exiting the field at around 4:40PM, getting picked up by a vehicle. The vehicle was stopped and the suspect was arrested. He was in possession of a Honduras ID card identifying him as being 36-year-old Escober Castillo Wifredo. He was charged with Fleeing or Evading Police.

Both men were transported to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center, and later to an out of county detention center.

Deputies were able to determine that the two men had travelled to the Mayfield Ky area from the Nashville Tennessee area.

The Mayfield and Kentucky State Police assisted.

October 12, 2026

On October 11, 2026, at approximately 9:30 AM, deputies were dispatched to the 32-mile marker of Interstate 69 (I-69) for a single vehicle collision with injuries.

Upon arrival, Deputy Austin Caldwell located the operator of the vehicle on the ground next to the vehicle bleeding from his head. Deputy Caldwell rendered aid to the operator until EMS arrived.

After further investigation, it was determined the operator, James Warren, 51 of Mayfield, was traveling northbound on I-69 when he left the roadway to the left. Warren then traveled through the median, re-entering I-69 into the southbound lanes. Warren then continued to travel across the southbound lanes, exiting the roadway into another ditch. It was then determined Warren struck two trees where his vehicle overturned coming to final rest next to the shoulder of I-69.

Warren was treated for his injuries on scene and transported to a nearby hospital to be further evaluated.

Deputy Caldwell investigated the collision and was assisted by Deputy Chad Hall, Kentucky State Trooper Cody Jackson, Mayfield/Graves County EMS, Mayfield/Graves County Fire & Rescue and Kentucky State Police Dispatch.

Re: Road Rage / Falsely Reporting Incident on Interstate 69

On Monday October 05, 2026 at approximately 5 PM, Graves County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a semi versus passenger car collision on I-69 southbound at about the 20-mile marker. Drivers of both vehicles had called 911 to report the collision.

44-year-old Matthew I. Jones of Martin Tennessee was operating a 2021 Nissan Rogue, and 49-year-old William A. Cox age 49 of Ulysses, Ky was operating a 2007 International Semi that was hauling 39,000 lbs. of steel beams, with a total weight of about 80,000lbs.

Jones reported to deputies on the scene that the semi driver cut him off in traffic, and then intentionally rammed his vehicle in the rear knocking out the rear glass and injuring his female passenger Amy J. Jones age 44 also of Martin, Tennessee. She requested to be transported by ambulance to Jackson Purchase Medical Center in Mayfield for non-life-threatening injuries.

The operator of semi-William Cox disputed the statement given by Jones. He reported that for unknown reasons, Jones began giving him obscene hand gestures, got in front of the semi, and (brake checked) slammed on his brakes causing the semi to rear end the passenger car.

Deputies on scene reviewed video dash camera footage from the semi and determined that Jones had falsely reported the events that caused the crash to authorities and had intentionally caused the collision by slamming his brakes directly in front of the semi-truck. In doing so, Jones actions caused injuries to his passenger Amy Jones, who was taken to a local hospital. This was all as an obvious result of “road rage” by Matthew Jones.

Subsequently, an arrest warrant was sought by sheriff’s deputies charging Matthew Jones with Reckless Driving, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Failure to Wear Seat Belts, and Falsely Reporting an Incident to Law Enforcement.

Jones has been made aware of the outstanding warrant, but as of the time of this release, has failed to turn himself in.

“Road rage is a real thing, that is reported to law enforcement regularly. When experiencing this, we would suggest to think about your actions and the consequences that could follow,” Sheriff Hayden stated.

Chief Deputy Jermey Prince investigated this collision.
