FOLLOW-UP:

On July 16, 2026, Mayflower officers responded to a residence on North Main Street regarding an animal welfare complaint. During the investigation, officers located 11 severely malnourished dogs inside the residence without access to food, water, or electricity. Due to the severity of the animals’ condition, the Faulkner County Animal Shelter was contacted and later arrived to assist with the investigation.

While on scene, officers received information that led to interviews and the initial arrests of Sam and Kathy Hudson. Both were charged with 11 counts of cruelty to animals, an unclassified misdemeanor.

Following the arrests, and with assistance from the Faulkner County Animal Shelter, officers conducted further investigation and medical evaluations of the animals. A case file was prepared and submitted to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether the original misdemeanor charges should be upgraded to felony charges. Following review and approval, arrest warrants were issued for Sam and Kathy Hudson on 11 felony counts of aggravated cruelty to a dog, cat, or equine.

On September 11, 2026, officers with the Mayflower Police Department quickly located, apprehended, and transported Mr. and Mrs. Hudson to the Faulkner County Detention Center, where they were booked on their felony warrants.

The Mayflower Police Department expresses its gratitude and appreciation to the Faulkner County Sheriff’s Office and the Faulkner County Animal Shelter for their assistance and cooperation throughout this investigation.

All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Flock Safety Camera Update

All Flock cameras have been removed from the City of Mayflower and services have been terminated with the company. We have received questions regarding possible replacement of the Flock cameras with a different company, and we want to dispel those rumors. The Mayflower Police Department will not be entering into any contract or enrolling in any service similar to Flock Safety and will not participate in any form of mass surveillance of our community. The safety of our community remains paramount, and we remain committed to protecting our citizens without compromise.

Hey, Eagle Country! Now that everyone is getting back in the swing of things for the school year, we wanted to take a moment to formally introduce the new School Resource Officer, Derek McCoy!
Officer McCoy has dedicated his career to law enforcement since 2012 and is driven by a genuine commitment to serving his community and making a difference in the lives of others. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with a minor in Sociology from the University of Tennessee, and has continued to build on that foundation throughout his career with continuing education offered through various institutions.
Over the years, Officer McCoy has had the opportunity to serve in a variety of roles, each bringing its own challenges and experiences. He has served as a Field Training Officer, where he helped guide and mentor new officers, and as a SWAT Operator, where he responded to some of the department’s most complex and demanding situations. Additionally, Officer McCoy spent time as a Major Crimes Detective, where he had the opportunity to investigate complex cases and seek answers for victims and their families. Officer McCoy also served as a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, combining his law enforcement experience with a passion for keeping children safe in the community.
Since he began his employment with the Mayflower Police Department, Officer McCoy has already completed an impressive 54 hours of specialized training, tailored to School Resource Officers, through the Criminal Justice Institute. This training will play a vital role in ensuring that Officer McCoy is fully equipped with some of the best training possible to keep our children safe.
While his career is an important part of who he is, Officer McCoy considers being a husband and father his greatest role. When he is away from work, he enjoys spending time with his family, competing on the tennis court, and getting out on his motorcycle whenever he gets the chance.
For Derek, law enforcement is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to serve, protect, and have a positive impact on the community he calls home. If you see him out, please stop and introduce yourself. He would love to build relationships with the community he is proud to serve!

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026, Mayflower Police Department Officers responded to the area of Dam Road regarding a report of a theft from a vehicle where multiple items were stolen. The victim was able to provide officers with a partial description of a suspect vehicle at that time, and an investigation was immediately initiated to attempt to identify a suspect as a result. On Sunday, June 14, 2026, officers again responded to the area of Dam Road regarding another theft from a vehicle, where they were able to obtain additional information to aid in their investigation.

On Monday, June 15, 2026, while officers were conducting extra patrol in the area of Dam Road, a vehicle matching the suspect vehicle description was observed traveling eastbound on Highway 89 South near Dam Road. Officers initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver as Nathan Andrews of Jacksonville, Arkansas.

During the roadside interview, Mr. Andrews admitted to stealing items from both vehicles and fraudulently transferring money from one of the stolen credit cards into his own account. Officers located numerous stolen items inside the vehicle Mr. Andrews was driving. Those items were recovered from the scene and have since been returned to their owners.

The Mayflower Police Department would like to express our appreciation to the victims and members of the community for providing vital information that assisted in identifying the suspect and helped to bring this investigation to a successful conclusion.

Happy Flag Day! On June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress approved the design of a national flag. Congressional legislation designating June 14 as Flag Day was signed into law by President Harry Truman, and the legislation called upon the president to issue a Flag Day proclamation every year. Everything about the flag of the United States of America has meaning. While most people are aware that the stripes represent the original 13 Colonies and the stars represent the 50 states of the Union, few people know of the symbolic meaning of the colors. Red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice.
