πŸ”₯πŸš’ Today, members of Laureldale Volunteer Fire/Rescue Company along with Mays Landing Fire Department, Cologne Volunteer Fire Company, and New Jersey Forest Fire Service are out at Shaner School, talking with students about the importance of fire safety as we kick off Fire Prevention Month in October! πŸ§‘β€πŸš’πŸ«

Fire safety education starts at a young age, and knowing what to do in an emergency can make all the difference. Our firefighters are helping students learn important safety tips, including:

🚨 Smoke Alarms: Know what a smoke alarm sounds like and why working smoke alarms are essential in your home.

πŸšͺ Know Your Exits: Always know two ways out of every room and keep doors and hallways clear.

🏠 Have an Escape Plan: Practice your home fire escape plan with your family so everyone knows what to do if a fire occurs.

πŸ“ Choose a Meeting Place: Pick a safe location outside, away from your home, where everyone can meet after escaping.

πŸ›‘ Get Out and Stay Out: Never go back inside a burning building. Leave the rescue to firefighters.

πŸ“± Call 911: Once you are safely outside, call 911 to report the emergency.

🌲πŸ”₯ Wildfire Safety with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service: Fire safety doesn’t stop at our front door! Students can also learn about preventing wildfires by never playing with matches or lighters, properly extinguishing campfires, and never throwing ci******es into dry grass or brush. Dry leaves, pine needles, and other vegetation can help a fire spread quickly. Always follow local fire restrictions and help keep New Jersey’s forests and neighborhoods safe!

We’re proud to educate our community’s students and help them build the knowledge and confidence they need to stay safe. A few minutes of fire safety education today can help save lives tomorrow!

A big thank-you to the staff and students at Shaner School for welcoming us! ❀️

πŸ“… Fire Prevention Week is October 4–10, 2026, but fire prevention is important all year long!

HTPD COMMUNITY SURVEY CAMPAIGN

πŸ“£ YOU SPOKE. WE LISTENED.

When we asked residents what concerned them most, juvenile issues were near the top of the list.
So we made changes.

Not just to how we respond to juvenile incidents β€” but to how we investigate them, prevent them, and build relationships with our young people.

πŸ”Ž MORE FOCUS. MORE FOLLOW-UP.

HTPD assigned Det. Longo as our Juvenile Detective, providing dedicated attention to juvenile investigations and ensuring these cases receive consistent follow-up.
Since taking on the assignment:
πŸ“‚ 272 cases handled
πŸš” 34 arrests
But we also know we can't arrest our way out of every problem.
That's where IMPACT comes in.

πŸ’™ A DIFFERENT KIND OF POLICE WORK.

HTPD created the IMPACT Officer position (Intervention, Mentorship, Prevention, and Community Trust) and assigned Ofc. Cannon with a simple mission: be present.
In our schools.
In our neighborhoods.
At community events.
And wherever our young people need us.

Since the position was created, Ofc. Cannon has completed:

🀝 754 community policing activities
🏠 348 property checks
πŸ“ž 326 calls for service

Among those calls:
πŸ‘₯ 82 juvenile complaints
πŸ›οΈ 6 thefts
⚠️ 6 assaults

That's more than a list of statistics.

It's visibility. Relationships. Accountability. Prevention.

Det. Longo and Ofc. Cannon approach the issue from different directions β€” one focused on investigation and accountability, the other heavily focused on presence, prevention and relationships.
The goal is the same: a safer community and better outcomes for our young people.

You told us juvenile issues deserved more attention.

We listened. And we took action.

πŸ’™ HTPD LISTENS. HTPD CARES.

πŸš’ Hose, Ladder & Pump Testing πŸš’

Today was a busy day at the firehouse as US Fire Services was on-site conducting our annual testing of our fire hose, ladders, and apparatus pumps.

While these tests may not always be visible to the public, they are a critical part of keeping our firefighters and the communities we serve safe.

πŸ”₯ Hose Testing
Fire hose is put through pressure testing to ensure it can safely handle the pressures required during an emergency. Hose can be exposed to heat, chemicals, abrasion, and repeated use, so regular testing helps identify damage or weaknesses before that hose is needed on a fire.

πŸͺœ Ladder Testing
Our ground ladders are inspected and tested to ensure they remain structurally sound and capable of supporting firefighters during critical operations, including ventilation, rescue, and fire attack.

πŸ’§ Pump Testing
Our apparatus pumps are tested to verify that they can deliver the required water flow and pressure. A reliable pump is essential when firefighters are operating handlines, supplying aerial devices, or establishing a water supply during a structure fire.

These tests are more than just routine maintenance β€” they are about readiness and reliability. When we respond to an emergency, our firefighters need to know that the equipment they depend on will perform exactly as expected.

A special thank you to US Fire Services for spending the day at our firehouse testing and inspecting our equipment and helping us maintain a high level of operational readiness.

πŸš’ Tested. Maintained. Ready to Respond.
