Today, Maysville Fire Department Shift 2 spent most of the day visiting the 2nd grade classes at Mason County’s Straub Elementary School, teaching students about fire safety and the important work firefighters do every day!

Our crews had a great time talking with the students about fire prevention, what to do in an emergency, and how firefighters help keep our community safe.

One of the highlights of the day was giving students the opportunity to go through our Fire Safety House! Students got hands-on experience practicing how to stay low under smoke and safely escape a structure during a fire. These are valuable, potentially lifesaving skills that we hope they will always remember!

At the Maysville Fire Department, we believe that fire prevention and education are just as important as responding to emergencies. Teaching children these skills at a young age can make a difference when seconds count.

A special thank you to the Mason County School System, Straub Elementary teachers, and staff for welcoming our firefighters and making fire safety education a priority!

We are proud of our Shift 2 personnel for taking the time to educate the next generation and continuing our commitment to keeping our community safe!

**OCTOBER IS FIRE SAFETY MONTH!**

Over the past couple of weeks, the Maysville Fire Department has had the opportunity to visit schools throughout the Buffalo Trace Region, working alongside our neighboring volunteer fire departments to educate students about fire safety and prevention.

While teaching our children about fire safety is extremely important, we also want to take this opportunity to recognize something that often goes unnoticed — **the incredible dedication of our volunteer fire departments and the men and women who serve them!**

Our communities depend heavily on volunteer firefighters. These individuals give up their personal time, leave their families, and answer the call when their neighbors need them most. We are always proud to stand beside these departments, whether it's responding to emergencies, conducting training, or educating the next generation about fire safety.

**Did you know?**

Of the 32 full-time personnel currently employed by the Maysville Fire Department, **27 also serve as volunteer firefighters in their home communities!**

That's over 84% of our full-time staff who continue serving others even when they aren't on duty in Maysville!

Our personnel volunteer with departments stretching as far east as Greenup and Carter Counties, as far west as Bracken County, and even across the Ohio River into neighboring communities.

These men and women don't stop serving when their shift at Maysville ends. They take their knowledge, training, and experience back to their hometowns to help protect their friends, families, and neighbors.

**As Fire Chief, I couldn't be prouder of the dedication our personnel show — not only to the citizens of Maysville but to communities throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.**

**WORKING TOGETHER MAKES US STRONGER!**

We also want to recognize and thank the many volunteer fire departments throughout Mason County that we work alongside daily, as well as our neighboring departments in surrounding counties. The relationships we have built with these departments are invaluable, and we appreciate everything they do for their communities and ours.

A special THANK YOU to the following departments for working alongside us during our recent school fire safety programs:

đźš’ **Flemingsburg Volunteer Fire Department**

đźš’ **Ewing Volunteer Fire Department**

đźš’ **Tollesboro Volunteer Fire Department**

đźš’ **Brooksville Volunteer Fire Department**

Your willingness to work together to teach our young people about fire safety is greatly appreciated. These partnerships show our students that no matter what name is on the side of the fire truck, **we are all working toward the same goal — protecting lives and serving our communities!**

We look forward to visiting more schools and partnering with additional departments as we continue our fire safety education efforts. If we have unintentionally left anyone out, please know that your efforts are appreciated just as much!

**Fire safety education is about more than teaching children what to do in an emergency. It's about building relationships, earning trust, and helping create safer communities for generations to come.**

To all the career and volunteer firefighters throughout our region, THANK YOU for your service, sacrifice, and dedication.

**Different departments. Different communities. One mission — protecting and serving others!**

Since the early morning hours of October 10th through this morning, the Maysville Fire Department has responded to an incredible 32 ambulance runs!

Due to equipment issues at a local medical facility, numerous patients have required transportation to another facility for diagnostic scans. This has created an unusually high demand for ambulance services throughout our area.

And while handling this increased ambulance call volume, our crews also responded to a major motor vehicle accident that required transporting a patient to Cincinnati due to weather conditions preventing medical helicopters from flying, along with multiple fire-related responses.

Through it all, our firefighters and EMTs have worked tirelessly, running nearly nonstop to ensure patients received the care they needed. Several of our personnel even stepped up and came in on their scheduled days off to help handle the increased call volume.

As Fire Chief, I cannot express how proud I am of our staff. Their dedication, professionalism, and willingness to go above and beyond, even when exhausted, speak volumes about the kind of people we have serving our community.

And those 32 ambulance runs don’t even include the additional calls handled by our neighboring EMS agencies!

We also want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to the surrounding EMS agencies that stepped up and assisted us during this extremely busy time. Your willingness to help carry the load made a tremendous difference and ensured that patients throughout our region continued receiving the care they deserved.

This is what public safety is all about. When the call volume increases, the challenges pile up, and the calls keep coming, we come together, support one another, and get the job done.

Most people never see what goes on behind the scenes during stretches like this. They don’t see the missed meals, the long hours, the exhaustion, or the employees who give up their time off to make sure someone is there when the next 911 call comes in. But I see it, and I couldn’t be prouder of the men and women who make up this department.

To our Maysville Fire Department personnel, especially those who sacrificed their time off to help, THANK YOU! To our neighboring EMS agencies who answered the call for assistance, THANK YOU!

We are truly blessed to have such dedicated men and women serving Maysville and the surrounding communities.

Proud to serve. Proud of our crews. Proud of the teamwork throughout our region.
