A 42-year-old Chicago man who was the subject of a court-ordered eviction is facing a felony gun charge after Sheriff’s Deputies found a stolen fi***rm at the foot of his bed.

At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Oct. 27, Sheriff’s Police Evictions Unit Deputies arrived to enforce a court-ordered eviction at a studio apartment in the 6200 block of South Dorchester Avenue in Chicago. They found Marecko Green, who was named in the eviction order, in bed as well as a loaded fi***rm at the foot of the bed. They learned that Green didn’t have a FOID and that the gun had been reported stolen from Chicago. Green was taken into custody. Following additional investigation by the Sheriff’s Police Gun Investigations Team, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s approved possession of a fi***rm by a repeat felony offender charge against Green. He was ordered to Cook County Jail custody on Oct. 28 following his first appearance hearing at the George N. Leighton Criminal Courthouse.

The public is reminded that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

K9 Chester
🐾 END OF WATCH – OCTOBER 30, 2026, 🐾

It is with profound sadness that the Cook County Sheriff’s Office announces the passing of K9 Chester.

For the past five years, K9 Chester proudly served the Cook County Sheriff’s Office Canine Unit alongside his human partner, K9 Specialist Eriaka Phillips.

K9 Chester’s primary assignment was within the Cook County Department of Corrections (CCDOC), where he played an important role in protecting the safety and security of our facility by ensuring that contraband did not make its way inside. Through his dedication, hard work, and unwavering commitment to duty, Chester made a lasting contribution to the department and the members he served alongside.

Beyond his service, Chester was more than a working K9. He was a trusted partner, loyal companion, and valued member of the Cook County Sheriff’s Office family. His bond with K9 Specialist Phillips was built on trust, dedication, and countless hours spent working side by side.

His sudden passing due to a medical emergency leaves a tremendous void, and he will be deeply missed by his partner, fellow canine handlers, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to K9 Specialist Eriaka Phillips during this difficult time. We are grateful for Chester’s years of faithful service and the difference he made in our department.

Rest easy, Chester. Your watch is over. Your service will never be forgotten!

Our Senior Self-Defense class ventured to Countryside, showing everyone that the golden years can still have plenty of punch.

Local seniors learned how to stay sharp with situational awareness and basic rules of engagement so nobody catches them slipping. The course covered everything from physical protection to talking your way out of trouble, giving residents the perfect verbal toolkit to tell would-be attackers to back off. More than anything, the class delivered a massive block of self-confidence.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, our Department of Corrections is standing in solidarity with survivors and honoring the lives we’ve lost. 💜

This month, an Empty Chair was displayed in each division—a silent, powerful reminder of the individuals who should still be with us today, and a symbol of our commitment to raising awareness.

To turn that awareness into action, DOC staff hosted and participated in a Walk in Solidarity. Dressed in purple, our team walked to honor survivors, support those currently impacted, and remember those lost to domestic abuse. Together, we are breaking the silence.

🚨FUGITIVE FOUND🚨

A 38-year-old Dallas man wanted in Texas for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon is in custody following an investigation by the Cook County Sheriff’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit and the U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. On Oct. 26, the U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force contacted officers seeking assistance in locating German Medina-Gonazalez. Medina-Gonzalez had an arrest warrant issued early this month in connection with an Oct. 11 shooting in Irving, Texas and was believed to have left the state in a Porsche Macan.

On Oct. 28, officers located the Porsche in the 900 block of South Clark Street and learned that Medina-Gonzalez was registered guest at an apartment there that is used as a vacation rental. Officers found him in the apartment and took him into custody.

Medina-Gonzalez is currently in Cook County Jail awaiting extradition to Texas.

The public is reminded that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
