SOLO QUILT EXHIBIT
-by Miranda Schulenberg.

Here is Miranda's story:
"I have lived in Mazomanie for about 22 years. My sewing and quilting journey started when my coworker, Cheryl, invited me to “Strip Club”. No, not what you are thinking! This group met once a month to exchange 2 ½ inch strips of fabric. They would use those strips to make the block of the month. If you made the block each month, you were entered into a drawing at the end of the year. If you completed a project with 2 or more of the blocks of the month, you would be entered in another drawing for a set of more strips of fabric.
That said, I made a lot of table runners! I was also hooked on sewing. I was cranking out all sorts of projects from table runners, sew-as-you-go bags, and smaller quilts. With the increase of projects on hand, I started selling them at craft fairs. This also inspired me to make a baby quilt for each of my great nieces and nephews for their first Christmas.
Last year I saw an ad looking for volunteers to help sew quilts for Quilts of Valor at our local EMS building. I went to help. I took a couple bundles of fabric to work on at home. This transpired in to more… After that, I was asked to join the Mazomanie Material Girls Quilts of Valor group. It has been so rewarding to help make quilts that are given to our military community members. I am so excited to be sharing my work with all of you!"

Be sure to stop by the library to look at this beautiful exhibit in person.

WHAT IS A GANDY DANCER?
"Gandy Dancer" is a slang term for early railroad workers in the United States, more formally referred to as "section hands", who laid and maintained the railroad tracks in the years before work was done by machines.
Established as a railroad town in 1857, Mazomanie would not exist today without the hard work of gandy dancers. We continue to celebrate the hard work of these tireless individuals through music at the Gandy Dancer Bluegrass Festival.
Stop by the Mazomanie Free Library to learn more about gandy dancers and see past memorabilia of the Gandy Dancer Bluegrass Festival.

LINKcat (our library catalog) will have a new look starting Friday, April 17, 2026.

-During the transition (April 13 through April 16), LINKcat and the LINKcat app will be unavailable, and services will be limited at library locations. During this offline period, due dates on library items will be extended to ensure minimal impact for users.

- A number of features will be added to LINKcat once the new version is unveiled on April 17, including the ability to to manage Overdrive/Libby checkouts and holds from within the LINKcat dashboard. WE HAVE A FANTASTIC NEW QUILT DISPLAY - BABY & JUVENILE QUILTS
Local quilters, loosely known as the Material Girls, have assembled some of their old & new baby and juvenile quilts to decorate the walls of our favorite library.
Many different techniques are on display. It’s interesting to see how the color and style designs have changed over the years. Most of these quilts are machine pieced and the top stitching was also done by machine.
As you can see, most of these have been made for and lovingly used by grandchildren of the quilters. They all have a story to tell.
We hope you enjoy seeing them as much as they enjoyed making them.
Stop by the library to take a look or visit our website for more photos of this beautiful collection. mazolibrary.org
