Keep McAlester Beautiful We promote keeping McAlester beautiful by cleaning, picking up litter, planting trees, and recycling. Polk, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.

Keep McAlester Beautiful (KMB), formerly Pride In McAlester is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization with the goal of making McAlester, Oklahoma a cleaner, safer, and more beautiful place to live and work. KMB consists of citizen volunteers, business supporters, and partner organizations who contribute time, labor, money, and supplies to ensure that McAlester continues to fulfill its potential as a great place to live and work. From painting projects to litter pickups, KMB’s dedication to keeping McAlester beautiful provides results that can be seen in every sector of the community. Monthly meetings serve as a planning forum for various programs including volunteer days, cleanups, and other community improvement projects. Citizens rely on KMB’s bi-annual cleanups to responsibly dispose of bulk waste, tires, household hazardous waste, prescription drugs, electronics, and more. These events take place every year in October and April and are offered at no charge to McAlester residents. Since Spring 2011, over 5 million pounds of waste have been removed from streets and homes during KMB cleanups. To further beautify McAlester, volunteers paint community areas such as playgrounds, bridge railings, and fire hydrants in addition to numerous litter pickups. Recycling in our community began in 2010 at the urging of Keep McAlester Beautiful leaders. Since that time, the McAlester Recycling Center has grown to accept #1 and #2 Plastics, Aluminum, Paper, Cardboard, Paperboard. All recyclables can be collected separately at home and dropped off at the center located at the former national guard armory 301 E. It is a primary goal of KMB to educate the community about the importance of reusing and recycling to conserve energy and raw materials. Staff and volunteers present to numerous schools, civic organizations, and during public meetings about these issues. Lastly, Keep McAlester Beautiful partners with groups towards community improvement and events. KMB has served as a partner on many development projects in recent years including the OKLA Theater Asbestos Abatement, the McAlester Dog Park, the McAlester Community Garden, installing public art, and more.

On November 14th, Old Town is getting a new look!

The rustic light poles, while beautiful, have lost some of their shine. We're planning on giving them new life by adding a fresh coat of paint to cover up the years of scrapes and nicks.

McAlester's Old Town is a uniquely beautiful part of our city. Not only is it a charming area, but it is also where our city began all those years ago. I can't think of any better place that encapsulates McAlester more than Old Town, so we must take care of this slice of McAlester's history while we can.

We can't do this alone, so please join us in painting the light poles in Old Town. We will start painting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14th. Volunteers should wear clothes that they don't mind getting paint on.

Gotta give a big shout out to the MHS boys and girls basketball teams for picking up Chadick Park on Monday!

So many students were out there picking up litter across the whole park. I'm always happy to see big volunteer groups come together for our park cleanups. The more people we have, the more trash we can remove!

And this group removed quite a bit of trash. They collected 10 bags of trash from the whole park.

The boys soccer team also had park cleanup recently. Soccer Coach, Ra'shaud Buie and the soccer team have adopted Mullen Park and held their first cleanup last Friday.

So grateful for the many active park adopters we have in our program. Thank you guys for taking the initiative to clean up our community.

Go buffs!

Fall Cleanup is officially over!

We had a great two weekends, despite the rain. I'm excited to see just how much junk we removed from the community.

Gotta give our partners Republic Services, CSI Recycling, District 18 Drug Court, RTR Environmental, The Sustain Group, and the City of McAlester a big thank you for their continued support of our cleanups each year.

That also goes to our awesome volunteers who showed up every weekend to work the cleanup. We had a good group this fall and I hope to see them again in the spring.

If you missed our cleanup, we will be hosting another one this April so be on the lookout for those dates when the time comes!

Last weekend to use the Fall Cleanup! If you have any furniture, bulk trash, electronics, appliances or metal you need to throw away you can bring them to the recycling center today and tomorrow!

For brush you will need to take that to the McAlester Landfill. In collaboration with the Fall Cleanup, they are open at the same time as us for the weekend.

I hope to see you out here!

Our first weekend of the cleanup may have been damp but we made it through!

Through rain or shine, KMB and our awesome volunteers were out there unloading trash. Many of our volunteers stayed the whole duration of the cleanup, even when the rain was coming down the hardest.

I can't express how grateful we are for their support. We couldn't have done it without the kind individuals who showed up to help.

And of course we couldn't do it without you all taking the initiative to load up your trailers, bring your garbage to the right place, and donate money to our organization. So if you have any more furniture, bulk trash, tires, metal, or electronics be sure to bring it by this weekend!

The 10th and 11th are the last days of our Fall Cleanup so mark your calendars. The cleanup will not be returning until April of 2027 so take advantage of it while there is still time!

We will be accepting brush at the McAlester Landfill who will be open during the same time as the cleanup.

We had a great crowd of volunteers last weekend but we still need more to finish out the Fall Cleanup. Anyone 18 and up can volunteer. Closed-toe shoes and thick long pants are a must.

Thank you to the Pittsburg County Republican Women for cleaning up their block on Monday!

The Pittsburg County Republican Women have been committed block adopters for years. These 4 volunteers spent their afternoon on Monday picking up litter along Wyandotte Ave. from Main to 4th Street.

They collected about 4 bags of trash from the cleanup. We're grateful to have organizations like theirs to help pursue KMB's mission to make McAlester a cleaner and more beautiful place to live in. Every litter pick pushes us closer to that goal.

Again, thank you, Pittsburg County Republican Women, for being a block adopter! If you're interested in adopting a block of your own you can sign up here --> https://keepmcalesterbeautiful.com/community/adopt-a-block/
