🚨 LIGHTS BEHIND THE SIRENS | EPISODE 6 🚨
Breaking the Silence: Mental Health & Su***de Awareness
As we close out September and Su***de Awareness Month, Lights Behind the Sirens is taking on a difficult conversation—one that is still not talked about enough, especially within EMS and the first responder community.
Behind the uniform, behind the badge, and behind the sirens are real people who experience stress, trauma, loss, exhaustion, and moments when the weight of the job—and life—can become overwhelming.
The stigma surrounding mental health can make asking for help feel difficult. That is exactly why conversations like this matter.
For Episode 6, we are honored to welcome Dr. Kathy Rall with South Texas Health System McAllen, who joins us for an open and meaningful discussion surrounding mental health, su***de awareness, recognizing warning signs, breaking the stigma, and supporting one another.
Dr. Rall shares powerful insight from both her professional perspective and personal experiences, bringing honesty and humanity to a subject that deserves our attention.
Our message to our fellow first responders is simple: Checking on your partner matters. Listening matters. Speaking up matters. Knowing when and how to approach someone who may be struggling matters.
🎥 Stay with us through the end of the episode, where we demonstrate examples of how to approach difficult mental-health situations in the workplace—how to start the conversation, how to check on a coworker, and how we can create an environment where asking for help is met with support rather than stigma.
At Med Care EMS, we believe taking care of our communities also means taking care of the people standing beside us.
