Over the summer, the 184th Wing hosted two change of command ceremonies!

Lt. Col. Naomi Leonard relinquished command of the 134th Air Control Squadron to Maj. Morgan Huttes during a change of command ceremony at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan., July 8, 2026. Col. Robert Campbell, commander, 184th Regional Support Group, was the presiding officer. Huttes previously served as the director of operations for the 134th ACS. During her tenure since February 2023, Leonard guided the squadron through a global mobilization and advanced key integrations like the Tactical Operations Center – Light (TOC-L) and the Air Base Air Defense System - Missile Defense (ABADS - MD).

Lt. Col. Keith Marshall assumed command of the 184th Mission Support Group during an assumption of command ceremony at McConnell Air Force Base, Kansas, Aug. 7, 2026. Col. Joseph Deeds, commander, 184th Wing, was the presiding officer. Marshall previously served as the chief of Government and Legislative Affairs, Adjutant General’s Office, Kansas National Guard. He replaces Col. Penny Jamvold who recently accepted a position as the director of the Commander’s Action Group, Kansas National Guard, Joint Force Headquarters.

Congratulations to all our officers as they serve in their new roles!

Emerging technology needs more than a controlled test. It needs a credible adversary.

The 184th Wing’s Point Defense Battle Lab served as a primary Red Team capability during T-REX 26-3, employing threat-informed small UAS, UAS swarms and realistic adversary tactics to challenge technologies being evaluated for the Joint Force.

Their role was simple: make the problem harder.

By changing threat profiles, employing swarms and forcing systems and operators to respond to an adaptive adversary, the PDBL helped identify strengths, limitations and vulnerabilities while there is still time to address them.

The work also complements the priorities of Joint Interagency Task Force 401 and the broader effort to improve the Joint Force’s ability to counter emerging UAS threats.

Finding a weakness during experimentation isn’t failure... it’s the point. Every problem identified and corrected at T-REX is risk that never makes its way to the warfighter.

What does it take to keep the mission connected? Our Radio Frequencies Transmissions specialist (1D7).

This is just a glimpse into a day in the life with Senior Master Sgt. Corey Worster, RF and Satellite Communications Superintendent for the 134th Air Control Squadron!

As an RF Transmissions specialist, Worster and his team are the backbone of tactical communications, ensuring voice and data links stay up and running no matter where they are located.

But for Worster, the Air National Guard is about more than just the equipment and satellite links. It is about family, mentorship, and opportunity.

Meet Tech. Sgt. Ethan Folmar, a geospatial intelligence analyst assigned to the 184th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Group!

Folmar recently became the first enlisted Air National Guardsman to graduate from the Navy's Maritime Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (MISR) Weapons and Tactics Instructor (WTI) course.

Over an intense 18-week curriculum at the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center, Folmar trained alongside Navy, Marine Corps, and coalition partners to master multi-domain ISR tactical integration.

Now back at McConnell Air Force Base, he is already leveraging this joint network to strengthen operational ties between Distributed Ground Station-Kansas and fleet operational units.

This morning at 7:46 a.m., members of the 184th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group began a 9/11 Memorial Workout with a moment of silence to honor those who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001.

The workout was designed with purpose, with each element carrying a connection to that day.

The members completed a 2,001 meter run, 100-meter farmer’s carries, 110 air squats, 93 push-ups, and 77 alternating reverse lunges.

More than a workout, it was a time to remember, honor and reflect on the lives forever changed that day.

The Point Defense Battle Lab red team was on site during Technology Readiness Experimentation (T-REX) 26-3 — pushing systems, testing limits and bringing an adversary mindset to the fight.

By challenging emerging technology in a realistic environment, the red team helped identify limitations, force adaptation and make good ideas stronger before they reach the field.

Over August drill, members assigned to the 184th Wing executed three days of intensive pre-deployment training at McConnell Air Force Base, Kan. Airmen focused heavily on Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) defense, Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), and Care Under Fire (CUF) drills to prepare for upcoming deployments and the 184th Wing Combat Readiness Inspection (CRI) taking place this month.

"The primary intent was to transition our Airmen from classroom familiarity to high-stress, combat-realistic ex*****on in CBRN, TCCC, and tactical movements," said Maj. John Baxter, Blue Force Commander for the CRI. "By deliberately inducing friction over these three days, we have postured the 184th to not only ace the upcoming CRI, but to deploy downrange with the confidence and capability required to survive and win in contested environments."

As the training progressed from basic instructions to complex scenarios, Airmen were pushed to their limits to build these critical skills.

"From Saturday's foundational drills to Monday's chaotic capstone, we watched our Airmen transition from hesitant, step-by-step actions to rapid, instinctive reactions," Baxter said. "Under the stress of simulated explosions and drone attacks, they flawlessly executed Care Under Fire and CBRN procedures, proving that repetitive, hands-on muscle memory is what saves lives on our worst day."

Visitors from Air Mobility Command’s 2026 Summer Industry Preview stopped by the 184th Wing’s Point Defense Battle Lab (PDBL) to learn more about its mission and watch a live drone demonstration showcasing how emerging unmanned technologies can support innovation, testing and capability development.

The demonstration gave attendees an up-close look at the technology while opening the door for conversations about how the PDBL is helping connect Airmen, ideas and industry to solve real-world mission challenges.
