Important Laboratory Services Update: Changes for Off-Base Provider Orders
Beginning Oct. 5, 2026, the military medical treatment facility at McConnell Air Force Base will no longer accept laboratory orders written by off-base civilian providers, with the exception of orders for active-duty service members.
What This Means for Beneficiaries
If you receive care from an off-base civilian provider, you will need to take your lab orders to a TRICARE network laboratory location. This update applies to:
• Active-duty family members
• Retirees
• Retiree family members
(Note: Active-duty service members may continue having off-base provider laboratory orders processed at the clinic.)
Why This Change Is Being Made
This update directly supports patient safety, continuity of care, and mission readiness:
• Enhanced Patient Safety & Care Continuity: When diagnostic tests are ordered by off-base providers, routing orders and results through outside care channels can create administrative gaps, workflow bottlenecks, and potential delays in follow-up treatment. Directing patients to network civilian laboratories ensures test results return directly to your ordering provider without delay.
• Warfighter Medical Readiness: Dedicated on-base laboratory resources will focus on reducing wait times and maintaining rapid medical readiness for active-duty personnel.
💳 Network Copay and Cost Information
Minimizing your out-of-pocket expenses is an essential part of managing your overall health care. For retirees and family members enrolled in either TRICARE Prime or TRICARE Select (Groups A and B), covered civilian laboratory services carry a $0 copay when using network providers.
Important Reminder: While in-network laboratory services are $0 out-of-pocket under these plans, always verify that the specific laboratory location is fully in-network prior to your visit to avoid unexpected non-network cost shares or deductibles.
