HCPD School Supply Giveaway Builds Bridges and Fills needs for Local Families
Henry County, July 24, 2023 – The Henry County Police Department is pleased to announce the overwhelming success of its inaugural "Bookbags and Badges" school supplies giveaway, held this past Saturday at the Public Safety complex in McDonough. With generous contributions from the community and the hard work of the Henry County Police Explorers Program and the A.C.E. Unit, the department distributed over 900 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to families throughout Henry County.
Officer Jacob Braswell said that the "Bookbags and Badges" event was conceived with a two-fold mission: to provide school supplies to families in need, and to reinforce the bonds of trust between the Henry County Police Department and the communities it serves.
“The event exceeded all expectations, and we could not be more thrilled at the positive response from the community,” said Braswell.
Each backpack was packed with a variety of essential school supplies, from pencils, pens and paper to folders and other necessities, providing students with the tools they need to succeed in the upcoming academic year. He said the initiative was more than just a school supply giveaway; it was an investment in the future of our youth and our community.
“The Henry County Police Department wishes to extend its profound gratitude to all who participated and contributed to this event, whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading the word,” said A.C.E Unit Sergeant Dwight Johnson.
Police officials are hopeful that the success of this year’s event will encourage even more people to participate in future outreach initiatives and events.
“It is through initiatives like these that we can continue to nurture the ties that connect us and make Henry County a place where every child has the tools to succeed,” said Braswell.
