HENRY COUNTY, GA โ May 28, 2026โ Henry County officially adopted its Fiscal Year 2027 budget during Tuesday's regular commission meeting, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining essential county services, investing in infrastructure, public safety and supporting the well-being of residents across the county. The budget reflects the county's continued focus on fiscal stewardship while prioritizing the countyโs Strategic Plan to enhance quality of life, long-term growth and stability.
The Board of Commissioners approved the budget in a 4-2 vote, with Chair Carlotta Harrell, District II Commissioner Neat Robinson, District IV Commissioner Michael Price and District V Commissioner Kevin J. Lewis in favor, and Vice-Chair Dee W. Anglyn III and District I Commissioner Johnny Wilson opposed.
Henry Countyโs Chief Financial Officer Joy Robinson and Budget Director Bernita Campbell presented the budget that will fund county operations from July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027. The fiscal year 2027 general fund and special service district adopted budget is $294,200,000, up 2.2 percent from last year. In comparison, this yearโs budget underscores the countyโs Strategic Plan, adopted this past January. Every budget request is connected to the planโs goals and priorities, including fostering well-being and safety, while delivering efficient and responsive services.
The countyโs budget is based on the current millage rate of 15.733, maintains current service levels and allows for preparation for future growth. Financial Services officials noted the budgetโs 2 percent year-over-year increase is lower than the U.S. inflation rate of 3.3 percent.
Prior to the adoption, the Board held a budget workshop meeting on April 28th and a special called meeting on May 18 as part of the countyโs ongoing budget development process.
Public safety accounts for the majority of the countyโs budget at 52 percent or $151.3 million. Departments within public safety include the Coroner, Sheriff, Emergency Management & Homeland Security, E-911, Police, Fire Rescue, Code Enforcement and Animal Care and Control.
Judicial services account for the second largest expense. These services will receive 12 percent of the countyโs budget, equaling $34.4 million.
In addition, Leisure Services, including Parks and Recreation and Senior Services, make up 6 percent of the countyโs expenses or $17.9 million. The adopted budget includes $3.2 million of funding to support operations and staffing for the new Henry County Aquatic Center opening in June 2026.
The remainder of the budget will be allocated across Public Works, Administration Services, Planning and Economic Development among other public services.
Following the presentation, the Board of Commissioners and Interim County Manager Kevin Johnson thanked Financial Services staff for their hard work in preparing and presenting this yearโs budget.
