🚚💙 Exciting things are rolling in at The Samaritan Inn!

We're thrilled to introduce our new refrigerated truck, made possible through the incredible generosity of one of our dedicated kitchen volunteers and Atmos Energy!

This valuable addition will help us safely transport fresh food and expand our ability to serve individuals and families experiencing food insecurity throughout our community. We're so grateful for partners who help keep our mission moving forward!

Want to help drive our mission even further? 🚚

We're inviting local businesses to become truck sponsors! Showcase your company's commitment to giving back by adding your logo to one of our trucks.

What does equity look like in a food pantry? It starts with access and continues with choice. 💙

At The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry, two principles guide the way we serve our neighbors:

Equity means access. Everyone deserves the opportunity to access nutritious food, regardless of the circumstances they may be facing.

Dignity means choice. Our grocery-store-style Pantry allows individuals and families to select the foods that work best for their household rather than receiving a pre-selected box of items they may not need or use.

Because providing food is only part of our mission. How we serve matters, too.

We’re working to create an experience where every neighbor who walks through our doors feels respected, empowered and supported on their path toward greater stability.

Feeding our community takes a community. 🥫🍎💙

Every week, neighbors throughout Collin County turn to The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry for help putting nutritious food on the table. Thanks to the generous support of SRS Raise the Roof Foundation, we can continue meeting that need and serving families with dignity.

We’re thankful to have a partner that believes in strengthening communities and helping neighbors when they need it most.

Thank you, SRS Raise the Roof Foundation, for helping us make a meaningful impact one household at a time!

Food insecurity doesn’t always look the way we expect it to.

In a community like Collin County, it can be easy to assume that access to fresh, nutritious food isn’t a significant issue. But every month, The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry serves more than 10,500 individuals across 2,700+ households, and 39% of those individuals are children.

The need isn’t limited to the holidays or a single difficult month. For many of our neighbors, putting fresh food on the table is an ongoing challenge.

By providing a grocery-store-style experience with access to nutritious foods and the freedom to choose what works for their household, the Pantry is here to meet that need with dignity every day of the year.

Food insecurity is closer than you think. So is the opportunity to help.

Food can be about so much more than what’s on the table. 💙

For a family navigating a financial crisis, help with groceries can provide much-needed breathing room. When one essential expense is temporarily relieved, a household may have more flexibility to focus on rent, utilities, transportation, childcare or other immediate needs.

That’s why The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry is an important part of our broader continuum of care. We’re here to help stabilize our neighbors before, during and after a crisis, providing nutritious food, dignity and choice while helping families take steps toward greater stability and independence.

Because sometimes, food is the first step forward.

For families in parts of East McKinney, this is the reality. A local food access study estimated that households in the studied neighborhoods spend about 18% of their gross monthly income on groceries, compared with just 6% for McKinney households overall.

That gap matters. When more of a family’s paycheck has to go toward food, there’s less available for rent, utilities, transportation, childcare and other necessities.

The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry helps ease that pressure by providing access to nutritious groceries at no cost, allowing households to stretch limited resources further and focus on other essential expenses.

Food assistance doesn’t just fill a grocery cart. It can create breathing room in a family’s entire budget. 💙

A semi truck full of food and a whole lot of generosity! 💙

We are incredibly grateful to our partners at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and JustServe for delivering pallets of food to support our community. This generous donation will be shared between The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry and our shelter kitchen, helping provide nutritious food for both Pantry clients and residents of The Samaritan Inn.

Partnerships like this show what’s possible when our community comes together with a shared goal of caring for our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who helped make this incredible donation possible and for continuing to stand alongside The Samaritan Inn!

Together, we’re helping make sure more of our neighbors have food on the table when they need it most. 💙

Better flow. Greater capacity. More neighbors served. 💙

Recently, The Samaritan Inn had the opportunity to participate in the Kaizen program with friends Jo and Anthony from TOYOTA, who worked alongside our team to evaluate operations at The Samaritan Inn Food Pantry and identify ways we could serve our community even more effectively.

Together, we took a closer look at how clients move through the Pantry and developed a new system that establishes designated shopping zones, better manages the number of clients in each area and creates more flexible roles for staff and volunteers.

The impact is significant: with this new pace and improved flow, we expect to be able to serve approximately 100 MORE people every week!

Even as we increase capacity, two principles remain at the heart of our Pantry: equity and client choice. Every neighbor should have access to the food they need and the dignity of choosing the items that are right for themselves and their families.

Thank you to Toyota for sharing their time and expertise, and to our staff and volunteers for embracing new ideas that help us better serve our neighbors. This is what continuous improvement looks like, creating stronger systems so we can make an even greater impact. 💙
