CPA Week 7: Courts & Crisis Negotiations ⚖️🚔

Week 7 of our Citizens Police Academy gave students a closer look at two important aspects of law enforcement: the judicial system and crisis negotiations.

Justice Court 1 Judge Raleah joined us to discuss the role of the courts and provide insight into the judicial process and how it connects to law enforcement.

Students also heard from the McKinney Police Department’s Crisis Negotiations Team, who shared how specialized communication techniques, patience, and teamwork play a critical role in resolving high-stress situations. The team discussed their responsibilities and how negotiators work to de-escalate critical incidents and bring them to a safe resolution.

From the courtroom to critical incidents, this week gave our CPA students another perspective on the people, training, and decision-making involved in keeping our community safe.

Seven weeks down, and the learning continues!
