Where were you when the world stood still?

I’ll never forget that morning. After a late police shift in Oak Cliff, I was jolted awake by Tracie’s trembling voice: “Turn on the TV. A plane has hit the towers in New York.” I couldn’t believe it. As I switched channels, it became clear—this wasn’t an accident; it was an attack.

Then came the second plane, and reality hit hard. The towers fell, taking generations with them, while first responders rushed in, knowing the danger. The Pentagon, our military stronghold, was struck. A third plane aimed for the White House, but brave passengers fought back and prevented further devastation.
That day changed everything. Airports were never the same, and our intelligence operations transformed.

This morning, Tracie and I attended the 9/11 ceremony in McKinney, where we heard powerful stories honoring that day.

Thank you to all our first responders who keep us safe every day, your work does not go unnoticed.

God bless you all, and God bless the United States of America. 🇺🇸

Ten years. Some days it feels like a lifetime ago. Other days, it feels like I’m right back at Parkland and Baylor that night, surrounded by brothers and sisters in blue, praying for miracles that would never come. I had the honor of serving alongside Senior Cpl. Lorne Ahrens, Officer Michael Krol, Sgt. Michael Smith, Officer Patrick Zamarripa, and DART Officer Brent Thompson. They weren't just names on a memorial or faces in a photograph. They were my friends. We shared shifts, stories, laughs, and a calling to serve the people of Dallas. Being retired definitely slows things down, but it didn't end the memories. I still think about them often—especially today. I think about the families who have carried this loss for a decade, the officers whose lives were forever changed, and a city that came together through unimaginable heartbreak. Time has passed, but remembrance doesn't fade. Their sacrifice, their courage, and the example they set continue to live on in those of us who were fortunate enough to know them.
I'll never forget that night. More importantly, I'll never forget them.
Until we meet again, my friends. We have the watch.
