Today, MDR was honored to receive the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the Texas Division of Emergency Management. The reputation MDR has today was built by our volunteers who have given their time, shared their skills, and served others after disasters for the past 15 years.

Remember and honor those who served and especially those who gave everything for the freedoms we enjoy.

After a disaster, some mothers lead teams, coordinate logistics, clear debris, and help families take the first steps forward. Other mothers face uncertainty, care for family, and find the strength to keep moving.

Both reflect the heart of why MDR exists - to bring help and hope in the immediate aftermath of disaster.

We honor the mothers, daughters, grandmothers, sisters, aunts, stepmothers who serve and the ones we serve.

This week has been busy…
Our volunteers spent a fifth day in the Runaway Bay / Springtown area continuing cleanup from the tornadoes that hit North Texas last week.

At the same time, another team deployed to Atoka County, OK, to assist with cleanup after a tornado on April 27. We’ll share more on that work soon.

Here’s a look at a before-and-after project from the team in Springtown. This is why we exist - to step in during the immediate aftermath and help families start moving forward.

Early this morning, MDR volunteers deployed to Runaway Bay, TX, after an EF-2 tornado (winds up to ~135 mph) struck the community on Saturday, April 25.

Homes were destroyed and heavily damaged, with at least one fatality, multiple injuries, and dozens of families displaced.

Teams will be on the ground through Wednesday, focused on debris removal and helping homeowners begin the recovery process. We’ll continue to share updates as work moves forward.
