We had an informative and inspiring tour of the McConnell Public Safety and Transportation Operations Center on Tuesday evening, thanks to MVFD Volunteer Timo Klotz. MPSTOC is a partnership between the Commonwealth of Virginia and Fairfax County. This secured facility allows county and state 911, police, fire, transportation and emergency management agencies to collaborate and work more effectively and efficiently. The center handles roughly two million calls a year!

The fire engine “Push In” is a time-honored tradition to signal the arrival of new apparatus and goes back to the start of the 1800s. At that time, after crews returned from a call on horse-drawn equipment, the animals were not keen on backing into the station, requiring members to detach the horses and push the equipment into the bay. The legacy of pushing in a new piece of apparatus upon delivery allows us to celebrate arrival of the new engine and honor firefighters that have gone before us. We officially welcome this engine into our fleet, will ensure it stands ready to answer the call of duty for years to come, and thank everyone who made this possible.

A splendid time Saturday as McLean VFD welcomed our community to the station, where we conducted a traditional “Push In” for our new fire engine – and received the “Best Open House” award from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department. It was great to see so many neighbors, and we were honored by visits from Dranesville District - Supervisor Jimmy Bierman and Rep. James Walkinshaw. So much to do! Stop, drop and roll. Hands-Only CPR. Obstacle course. Fire hose. Face painting. 9-1-1 practice. Tour an ambulance and see an antique fire engine and antique pumper. We welcome you all back for a drop-by on Halloween for a quick trick-or-treat visit (5-8:15 pm)!
